Did you know that kids have their own rights? It’s called The Convention on the Rights of a Child. In this convention, there are 3 articles that stand out to me. In article 36, it states that the government must protect a child from coming to any type of harm or any action that are bad for them. In article 35, the government must make sure a child is not abducted, or sold. And the last article that stood out to me was article 34; the government must protect a child from any form of sexual abuse. With that said; my question is then why are 50% of sex traffickers kids?1 In the Philippines, 15 year old Maria looks for a job so she can help send her sick dad to the hospital. Maria met a man who said he can find her a job. But this man, this devious man forgot to mention that her job would be having sex with strange men. This 15 year old was lied to, manipulated, and later on force to preform sexual acts for men that paid her to basically rape her.
Sadly Maria isn’t the only one. Young girls from high rating children sex trafficking places like Eastern Europe, South East Asia and Africa are more likely to be preyed on and forced to become a sex trafficker. These girls just want to better their family’s lives and their own. Yet they are lied to and force to become a prostitute.
The saddest story I read while I was researching is this 13 year old girl name Alang from Cambodia. She was told by her aunt that her aunt was going to take her to get an education. And remember in Cambodia not many kids there are able to get their education. But it turns out that her aunt took her to a brothel and sold her body and virginity for money. Every time I watch Alang’s story it breaks my heart because that’s her own family. This angers me so much because family is important to me. Your family isn’t supposed to put you through danger; they’re supposed to protect you from these things2. This makes me sad and angry because it’s not only a stranger who
