Child Observation Report

I observed children at The Eaton Day Care Center Inc located on 310 S. Beech St in Eaton, Ohio.. It is located by two other Day Care centers on the same street. I picked this particular Center because I have heard a lot of great things about it and because it is a Christian based facility, but all are welcome even if they have a different religious belief or none at all. At the EDCC they have all ages from infants, toddler, preschool, and school age up to seven years old. They are open Monday- Friday 6a.m. to 6p.m. EDCC is a privately owned organization. They believe in not only nurturing the kids but helping them learn about morals, and values based on religion. There are twenty kids enrolled in the classroom I observed but there are usually only nine to thirteen kids who come regularly. I was in one of the two preschool classes and there were two main teachers. I observed a girl and a boy and I will call them Jim and Jane, which are not their real identities.
The classroom was divided up into 3 sections, the playing/story-time/nap-time room, the snack room/making activities room and the bathrooms for girls/boys/adults. The play room had several sections in it like the grocery/kitchen area, building blocks, books and coloring station, stuffed animals/veterinary area, calendars and seasons on the wall and their pictures with some of the things they have created and wanted to show off. There are stairs leading to the kindergarten room. The snack room has two big red tables with tiny blue chairs around it. Every chair is usually used and some kids have to sit at a different table in the corner for lack of space. Everything seems very close together and not very much room for people to move around the rooms. This room has a lot of things all over the walls, mostly things the kids have made and given to the teachers. They have a sign with their handprints

I observed a child throwing a fit at the mall the other day. This child did not want to leave the store and did not want to get into her stroller. She started to throw her head back and scream very loudly. Then she would throw her arms around and kick, in an attempt to not be strapped in. The mother started to yell at her daughter to stop while trying to strap her in. After a few minutes of the child kicking and screaming she was able to strap her in. But the child continued to scream, this was when the mother decided to leave the mall. My recommendation is that instead of trying to force the child into the stroller the parent could have held the child. Trying her best to calm her down, since the child was throwing around her body while the…

The child that I observed was an 18-month old boy that I will refer to as James. James is an active child who loves to interact with all his family members. His parents are married and live in a small city in Orange County. He comes from a middle class family which consists of his parents and two sisters. I observed James at the Coronado Café at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The observation took place in the evening over dinner.…

The three year olds gross motor skills, which are related to active play, consisted of throwing a large ball and running at a long distance to catch it, jumping up and down, climbing up the slide and jungle gym with ease and quickly. There was constant movement with the child in all the 45 minutes that I observed her and her level of activity was very high. It was hard to catch her at moment of stillness, and even then he would be fidgeting under the table or in her seat. Her fine motor skill included, using crayons and coloring a picture, and even though most of it was scribbles(which at this age they tend to do), she was able to remain inside the coloring picture outline. At many points through the day, I caught her zipping up and down her…

The observed child is given a pseudonym in order to remain anonymous. She will be addressed as Lizzy in this paper. Lizzy is a 9 years old child who is part of a typical, traditional middle-class family I visited her while she was conversing with her best friend. She has no prior knowledge of me. Some degree of deception is involved in this observation as I lied about what I will observe; I said I will observe her house, not her actions. The deception was a critical effort to keep the results accurate. I feared she will act differently if she knew I was observing her. Afterall, all deception was undone after the observation, and I asked for her asent again. I informed Lizzy’s parents prior to the observation without any deception, and they provided parental consents. Lizzy was the only person deceived during the observation, and Lizzy’s friend and cousin were unaware of my observation. They were not informed since they were not being observed. Moreover, the observation highlights two domains of development: physical and social.…

In this experiment they hypothesize that it should be easier for infants to represent a hidden object when it is familiar than when it is new. They also hypothesized, the novelty preference hypothesis makes familiar toys less attractive and decreases infants’ motivation to reestablish contact with them and that leads to poor responsiveness. Another hypothesis, known as the location conflict hypothesis, was that infants’ memory about a familiar objects prior location at home interferes with their ability to respond to absent reference to that object in the lab.…

On 6/14/2015 at approximately 1833 hours, I was conducting a security walk in Tower 12-B Pod at the Lower Buckeye Jail (address listed above). After I completed the walk in B pod I came up to cell 8 and noticed (V1) Inmate Stark, Arthur MCSO Booking Number (T174712) was laying on the lower bed inside his assigned cell with a pink Inmate towel over his forehead. I then asked Inmate Stark why he didn’t come up to get his evening meal. Inmate Stark then stated to me, "I am not hungry". I then ordered Inmate Stark to remove the pink Inmate towel from his head.…

I believe the most challenging aspect about this particular position is investigating a facility due to the allegations reported and properly documenting. When investigating a facility, one must be aware of their surroundings and properly multi-task because an investigation may involve talking to multiple individuals while receiving documents and presenting presenting facts. The main focus is to secure the child in that particular environment, by following all policies and procedures of the agency. This appeal to me because I've had a personal experience of child care negligence. When my daughter was younger she attended at child care facility that I trust and believe would properly care for my child. One day, I stopped by to check on her…

When I graduated University of Southern California in May of 2014, I was so ashamed of my 2.59 GPA, I didn’t even want my parents to fly to California to see me walk on Graduation Day. I still didn’t know what I wanted to do with my Bachelor’s in Social Sciences; and in fact, I didn't have any future plans beyond that point. I tried applying to this program, months before graduation, but became disheartened and couldn't follow through. I also tried searching for a job in California, but that also failed and I was forced to move back with my parents in South Carolina. I had no car of my own and this town has no public transportation, therefore, I already suspected it was going to be tedious finding a full-time job with my social sciences degree.…

I was placed in the infant room with babies 6-weeks to one year. The room was set up well. There were eight cribs and/or pack-and-plays aligned around the walls of the room with allowed for easy movement of teachers and crawlers. In the center of the room was a bright, primary color plat mat that the little ones loved rolling around on. There were also bouncers and jumper play toys for the kids to hop inside and have fun with. In one corner of the room was the changing table, kitchenette for warming milk and mixing baby cereal, and refrigerator for storage. There was ample storage space in the kitchenette and the entrances were blocked with childproof gates. Each child has a cubby to put their diaper bags in as well as extra toys, blankets, etc. I think that the room was just the right size for the amount of children in the class, and I think that it was set up in a user-friendly way so getting around was simple.…

On November 6th, I observed a four year-old boy at the UCI Early Childhood Education Center. My observation starts at 4:10pm, and it lasts for thirty minutes. At the time I did the observation, all of the children woke up from the nap time and started to play outside of the classroom. The playground is at least seventy-five square feet, and it has many play stations for children. Three classrooms share the same outside playground, and the age groups of those children are from three years old to five years old. All of the children could access to the outside playground through the back door in their classrooms. From the left side of the playground, there is a basketball stand next to the tree, then moving toward to the right, there is a lawn in the central of the playground. On the grass, there is a big…

I would like to introduce my self. My name is Perla. I heard through a couple of friends of mine that you might think you are pregnant. I hope for your sake you are not. If you are I would like to give you some advise on the effects of alcohol and becoming pregnant. I know you like to party and go out and drink, but what I am a bout to tell you might change your mind about becoming pregnant. When you consume alcohol during pregnancy, so does your baby because alcohol passes freely through the placenta to your baby. When you drink alcohol, so does your baby. Because babies are small compared to adults, alcohol breaks down much more slowly than in a grown person. This means that alcohol remains in a baby’s blood much longer than in the blood of its mother thus leading to possible irreversible harm to the baby’s development. All drinks that contain alcohol can harm your baby. There is no known safe amount of alcohol that you can consume if you are pregnant. It is best to discuss any drinking patterns with your healthcare provider.…
