When asked to write about a childhood experience most people think of the time they lost their first tooth when they were 6, or about the time they started school when they were 5, however, I’m going to write about summer. She was born on a busy summer night on September 13th 1918 in Brookline, Massachusetts. I always had the feeling that Rosie was a little different from the rest of us. On the day of her birth the midwife arrived late, and my theory is that this action deprived her brain of oxygen. We were proven right when she failed to advance from kindergarten and was deemed to suffer from intellectual disabilities. When this happened our parents began to conceal their third child from society.…

As most children grow up, they are aware of their surroundings and take in everything they can understand which adds to their personality and their structure of life. As a child I developed at a level more advanced than the children around me. I learned to use a computer at the age of 3 years old. I read at an 8th-9th grade level while in the 5th grade. In addition, I could handle complex situations better than a average elementary student. The mindset I had as a child unlocked new doors for me. For example, I was not afraid to try new things and accept the lessons that came along with new opportunities. Also, I learned from my parents that going down the path of success isn’t always easy. Lastly, I experienced that life is filled with…

The issue you tried to cover is really unique and good. When I was a child my siblings used to help me study mats, physics and chemistry. They always used to show me step by step and then, they let me practice with several similar questions. That helps me for my present knowledge. I remember there were other children’s whose parents will do their home works for them. For sure they used to get a better grade but I am not sure if it helped them. There for from my own experience it is better to guide them and let them to try and fail; since it won’t hurt them to fail instead it will teach…

In my opinion, the biggest challenging part of working as a Child Life Specialist will be the grief care, bereavement and intervention with a patient with life-threatening illness. I am going to cope with these challenges by preparing myself as professionally, and by respecting the children’s and families’ feelings. Child life specialists can contribute to the patients’ and families’ quality of life, and I believe that it is significant to support patients and families emotionally/socially regardless of situation. I will personally deal with these stressors by keeping my professional perspective, and by utilizing coping techniques (writing my concerns/feelings down, listening to music, sleeping, and taking a deep…

I am sure you find many letters coming across your desk from parents who have taken the opportunity to ‘brag’ about their child. I know mine won’t be the best, but I hope that I do my daughter justice at the end. As most parents do, especially with their first child, they keep a folder of milestones their child has reached throughout their years; a folder filled with report cards, love letters, photos, school projects, etc. When I look back at one of Morgan’s Kindergarten project “All about Me”, I couldn’t agree more with the saying on the front of her book exclaiming, ”There is nobody in the world exactly like me!”. It’s exactly how I feel about Morgan.…

Since the start of my clinical experience, I have found something to love in every specialty of medicine. Whether it is the cynical nature of surgeons or the broad based knowledge of internists, I wanted to be a part of it all. My favorite part of each specialty was the interaction and relationship I was able to form with every patient. However, I always found myself gravitating towards the pediatric population, particularly the adolescents. Whenever I saw a pediatric patient during my clerkships, I had this inner feeling of exhilaration. That feeling…

    My Nursing Career Essay

After a few short months of working, I knew that nursing was the career path I wanted to pursue. The patients I see day to day are remarkable. Although there are several patients I admire, there is one young girl that caught my attention from the day I met her. She has a rare complex medical condition which includes extensive therapy and several ongoing surgeries. But when you meet her, you would never know. She is overwhelmingly strong and passionate about achieving her goals and aspirations in life. I too, believe in her and want to help her accomplish her dreams. Through her I was able to realize my true passion for advanced practice nursing and my desire to help others through their healing process. As much as it can break one’s heart to see someone suffering, it also fills one’s heart to be there for the patient and their family. Although it may seem as though a nurse’s help goes unnoticed, for me, it is the satisfactory feeling of letting patients know they are not alone and being there for them through it all. That sense of joy is just one aspect of what makes me want to become a PNP. The learning experiences Nationwide Children’s Hospital will help me in my career as a PNP to identify illnesses and diseases, communicate effectively with my patients and the members of their family, as well as provide quality, evidence-based…
