Neglected children are 7.2% more likely to commit a crime then those who were not neglected. The decision making process has not been developed correctly in neglected children because of the damaging emotional effects they have faced, leading them to make rash and reckless decision in their life. The National Institute of Justice states “Twenty-six percent of these neglected children were arrested as juveniles, and only 16.8 percent for those not neglected.” This statistic shows that neglected children are more likely to commit crimes, even in their juvenile years. Because these children were never taught proper ways of how to act in society and their self – esteem has been damage their whole life, it leads young teenagers to believe that making reckless decision are okay because of the horrible actions that were made against them.
