Chief Petty Officer Essay
1. The recently promoted Chief Petty Officers attached to Staubles Bay for Officer of the Day (OOD) duties were required to carry-out an extended period of understudy, which entails working alongside a senior Chief Petty Officer during their tour of duty. As Command Fleet Chief Petty Officer (CFCPO), I was mandated by Command to design a mechanism to effectively assess the competency of these Chief Petty Officers to determine their readiness to assume the administrative responsibility entrusted upon them when they perform OOD duties.

2. The chosen mechanism agreed upon by the selected Fleet Chief Petty Officers and endorse by the Executive Officer, took the format of an assessment form, which is geared to assess critical competencies of the

    From June 2005 to September 2009, I served on the Guided Missile Destroyer (DDG) 64, USS Carney. The USS Carney has approximately 300 sailors and officers.
