Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy
My topic will focus on Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS). I am familiar with community policing because of my experience with Portland Police Bureau and its usage there. When I finished probation, I was assigned to a community where I actually became involved with community activities. I would park my patrol car and walk around, introduce myself and became a fixture in the community for two years. It helped prevent crimes as well as reduce certain crimes.
History
The concept of Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) was implemented in April 1993, with the idea of community policing. Officers are assigned to a neighborhood so that they become familiar with the residents and the residents become familiar with them. Through this familiarity evolved transference of communication and crime tips, prevention and awareness. Policing is no longer reactive but became proactive, and the citizens became involved in the resolutions of their neighborhood. A communication market analysis is conducted from a communication perspective and helps the firm to identify the strengths and weaknesses of its marketing communications (Clow & Baack, 2007). The data resulting from the analysis is combined with an analysis of the opportunities and threats present in the firm’s external environment, performing a communications analysis serves to guide determinations about a firm’s competitive and product positioning, as well as customer perceptions, and distribution
