Lab 4-B
Purpose
The purpose of this lab is to test these solutions and see what type of reaction occurs and see if a precipitate or gas forms between any of these reactions.

Research

(2) NH₄Cl(s) + NaOH(aq)
NaCl(aq) + NH₃(g) + H₂O

Hypothesis
In this experiment I estimate that the solutions that we are testing will either form a precipitate or gas, and show that a reaction has formed, or that the solutions will mix together causing nothing to form, showing no reaction has occurred.

Materials

Procedure
See text pages 191

Observations
Reactants in Aqueous Solutions
Observations
MgCl₂(aq) + NaOH(aq)
The liquid that had formed remained clear for some time, but over time we realized a faint yet noticeable precipitate forming. FeCl₃(aq) + NaOH(aq)
A yellow liquid had formed but no odour or precipitate had formed form what me and my partner had observed. We concluded there was no reaction. KCl(aq) + Na₂SO₄(aq)
No liquid, distinct odour, or visible properties had formed between the two reactants. Our observations showed there was no reaction. CaCl₂(aq) + AgNO₃(aq)
We observed that a solid had formed and that there was a liquid on top of the solid, but no smell or odour was present. CuSO₄ + Na₃PO₄(aq)
When the reaction occurred we observed a visible blue precipitate form, while the clear liquid remained on top.

Reactants
Predictions
Na₂CO₃(s) + 2HCl(aq)
The product of the reactants gave off a distinct smell; a gas had formed. NH₄Cl(s) + NaOH(aq)
We observed that not only...
