Charlotte Alumni Case Study
Dear Brothers of the Charlotte Alumni Chapter:

I have had the pleasure of getting to know Mr. Anthony Mize Jr. for the past couple of years and it is a pleasure to recommend him as a highly qualified and desirable candidate for membership into our Noble Klan.

In meeting Mr. Mize while he was taking classes at Tennessee State University, I took on mentoring him for I was impressed with his commitment as a scholar in his program of Integrated Marketing Communications and minor in Music. I have also respected Mr. Mize’s campus involvement, particularly due to his roles in Student Government Association, The Generation of Educated Men and since he expressed his interest of wanting to become a member of our Noble Klan. Immediately, Mr. Mize presents

After a while, most people who were pulled in learned what they were doing was actually wrong. Merlin Van Tornhout realized this and stopped following the Klan.“If I'd done what the klan sent me out to do/I'd be in jail a long time. But I didn't. I couldn't” (Hesse 150) After he came to his senses about what he was doing, he stopped himself and ran away. Harvey Pettibone was also someone in the story who joined the klan, made lots of mistakes, but then fixed things later. “...Viola remembers/why she fell in love with the great mule of a man in the first place/and all he's done lately to make things right…”(Hesse 157) Harvey managed to save his marriage as well as make things right before it was too late. Johnny Reeves is a completely different story. A terrible man in general, he too made terrible mistakes over and over again and joining the KKK didn't help the preacher’s case. When he finally tried to change, he was too deep in to get out. Only then did he become scared and realize the power of the Ku Klux Klan. “...Johnny Reeves looked at him/said/ I'm afraid of the Klan/and then he jumped/just like that.” (Hesse 140) The power of the Klan was too much for Johnny to handle and he believed the only way to escape it was…

Nussbaum’s two-prong affiliation capability treats those who wish to harbor the legacy of the confederacy and racism and the experiences of the Black students protesting the existence of these relics. First, individuals who wish to maintain the legacy of oppressive symbols would need to learn to live amongst those who are different and be able to show concern for their well being. For example, in the case of Ole Miss, Nussbaum would call for Sidle and Nelm to empathize with students who feel oppressed by the symbols and traditions in order to create a campus culture that is affirming. Second, Nussbaum would believe that Black students at the campuses previewed in this paper should have the ability to exist within an environment that supports their identities and allows them to be treated as equals versus having traditions that symbolize historical inequality. Therefore, Nussbaum states that justice demands that we go to the end to pursue the elements needed to create a space for individuals to have their dignity and…

While reading this threat letter in 1868 sent by a KKK member, the reader will begin to understand the level of racism that occurred during these time. As this source is a primary source it will corroborate my other sources whilst giving me a view to argue about within my essay; that the KKK used intimation and threat letters to fight against the Civil Rights Movement, thus, my overall question can be answer too. Even though I was not able to find who sent the letter due to the writer poising as dead confederate solider the perspective of source will still be that of a white male who was clearly in the KKK and believed in their beliefs and ideas. Despite the fact that the source was found on a secondary site I will still be…
