Charlie Brown Research Paper
The Charlie Brown Experience

What comes to mind when you think about Charlie Brown? Probably the great comic strip that was in each Sunday’s paper for years. You’re a good man Charlie Brown was a wonderful musical presented by Minnesota State University Moorhead’s theatre department. It brought people back to the days when Charlie Brown was a household name that everybody loved, regardless of your age. The combination of great acting, unique set design, lighting, and the memorable value made this a one of a kind musical that can be enjoyed by all audiences.
One very enjoyable quality of the musical was the acting. You need a strong leading actor to pull off the role of Charlie Brown to make him likeable to the audience, and Travis Kuntz played the part remarkably. His use of facial expressions let you know exactly how Charlie Brown must have felt in the wide range of scenarios. The best performer on stage overall was Snoopy (played by Sean Palmer). Although he had a very flamboyant style, his overall theatrical performance kept the audiences attention the whole time. The next best actors in my opinion were Sally (played by Lindsey Soiseth) and Schroeder (played by Tyler

The stage design was very unique compared to many other musicals I have seen. It was composed of multiple levels or platforms, each hosting different set pieces. Some characters had a “designated level” which they would always seem to end up on. For instance on one level you have the sign Lucy sits under, Schroeder’s piano on a different level, and on another level you have Snoopy’s doghouse. Throughout the musical as different scenes occurred, the different levels were utilized in different ways. Sometimes the characters would all be on the same level, and some times they would be scattered throughout the set. This created a unique effect that I had not seen before. The different levels made the musical more enjoyable to

Harrison’s stage directions gives the performers room to powerfully use the props and sets to symbolize the true feelings of each character. I experienced this from watching a production of “Stolen” by the Sydney Theatre Company. The five actors were always repositioning their beds in the institution across the stage to highlight how stability and security were unavailable to them in the ‘homes’, this also showed the emotional impact on each character of always feeling like they are hiding or on the run from authority figures. As an audience member I really felt each characters pain through the directors use of the elements of drama within the performance, it added a perception of realism and deepness to each characters aura.…

There was usually only one or two pieces that told you where the scene was taking place, but along with the lighting and sound, it was easily put together and it worked very well. The one problem I had with it was during the play I was under the impression that the room with the couch was some kind of common room for the building, but while reading the study guide, found out that it was supposed to be Fraulein Schneider’s room. This confused me because I don’t get why Fraulein Kost would be bringing her sailors through Fraulein Schneider’s room, but I guess they needed some place to show that part of the story. Also, there were times when there was just too much happening on stage and I got dizzy and confused as to what I should be paying attention to. Over all, I was impressed with their use of space and simplicity. Cabaret was performed on a thrust stage which also added to the feeling of unity and closeness between the performers and the audience. I think that in a play that is meant to make you feel like a part of the show, which Cabaret definitely is, this is important. It was one more way of pulling the audience in and making us “part” of the show. With this stage the action was happening within almost arm length of the front row and there was even a point at the beginning right before the show that actors were talking to the audience. It helped us relate more to the story then if they used a…

    Avenue Q Play Analysis

I like the set design of the play it looks realistic it seems like you are living in moment. For example, the wall was made of wood but the color contrast gave a realist impression. Also, the set design is important because it gives idea to audience where the setting of the play is located. Although the building in this play were relatively new, the original Broadway play set design was very worn out. In my opinion, if the play was old then the set design should look like the original Broadway play because on Avenue Q middle and lower class family leave. The apartment look like they leave on Avenue A. In additional, the costume is also important so the audience can figure out who they are. I think costume also show the personality of a character like upper, middle, and lower class and the costume designer of this play did great work. Especially, when two or three character wearing black cloths and the puppets were in red, blue, and green this shows the color…

Brown's second marriage was to Deidre "Deedee" Jenkins, on October 22, 1970. The couple were separated by 1979 and final divorce decree was issued on January 10, 1981. His third marriage was to Adrienne Lois Rodriguez (March 9, 1950 – January 6, 1996), in 1984. It was a contentious marriage that made headlines due to domestic abuse complaints; Rodriguez died in January 1996. Less than a year after her death, Brown hired Tomi Rae Hynie to be a…

“Dog Sees God,” an unofficial parody of “Peanuts” that played March 5 at the Struble Theater, tells the story of C.B. (presumably “Charlie Brown”), a teenager surrounded by doubt and conflict. Most of the cast did a respectable job at communicating both the humor and confusion of adolescence, but one actress stuck out to me most. Katie Chang, though appearing in only one scene as “Van’s Sister,” completely stole the show and blew everybody out of the water. Her performance managed to be natural and dynamic at the same time, which I couldn’t say the same for other actors in the production.…

The actor’s voices weaving in and out of the monitors. The volume changing ever now and then, giving a surprise and scare to the loud voice and letting the audience feel clueless at the low voices, that they are not able to pick up. For audiences sitting near the back, at points in the play, it was hard to hear what the actors were saying. When many group of actors were saying different things it was impossible to be able to make out what any of the groups said. And underneath the of the actors’ voice, in the background there was a buzz flying around the auditorium. Letting audience wonder who is doing the sound system and if a child is messing with it. The sound system was a crucial thing that connects the audience to the actors. But it could only be said to have done a semi-good…

One very notable performance for me was how quickly the more tame Reverend was able to switch characters and become his hot-tempered son Luke, who wasn’t afraid to do whatever it took to achieve justice. The difference between these two characters was like hot and cold and the actor who played both was able to change between characters fairly quickly so that it was almost difficult to tell that it was the same person playing a different character. I also found the scenes after Portia had been shot to be very moving and I really felt like the actors gave it their all. They were able to embrace the agony of not knowing if your child is going to make it and the difficulty of dealing with people trying to pity you.…
