Despite his success as an actor on the national stage, John Wilkes Booth will forever be known as the man who assassinated President Abraham Lincoln. Booth, a native of Maryland, was a fierce Confederate sympathizer during the Civil War. Before the fateful night at Ford’s Theatre, he had conspired to kidnap Lincoln and hide him until all Confederate prisoners were released. On April 14, 1865, Booth entered the theater’s balcony, shot Lincoln at close range and immediately fled the scene. After a 12-day manhunt, Booth was tracked down and killed by Union…

I can still recall the first time I heard a sermon on the valley of dry bones, taken from the book of Ezekiel chapter 37. I was around six or seven years old at Greater Salem Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky, were the Rev. T.B. Boyd was painting a picture of this valley full of dry dead bones toss around like dolls all over valley. I can still hear him as he talk about how depressing and dismal the sight was, dead dry bones as far as the eyes could see, bone after bone and they were dead. After a brief pulse, he would raise several questions: Is there any hope in this situation? Can these bones live again? In addition, he would expound on the conversation God had with Ezekiel regarding whether the bones could live again. Rev. Boyd would…

The other character who appears towards the end, doesn’t play a big role as the angel of death. The first supernatural appearance didn’t really scare Scrooge. Scrooge thought he was just seeing things when he saw Marley’s face on his house’s door knob. In my opinion when Dickens shows Scrooge the ghost’s image which looked like Marley, Scrooge gets surprise but not scared. Scrooge didn’t actually believe in Marley when he told him “In the next couple of nights there will be ghost that will visit you”. When Marley leaves Scrooge, Scrooge acts like nothing has happened.…

    David and King Saul

King Saul was chosen to demonstrate God’s power through his transformation. In Saul’s case it is not how you begin but how you finish. Saul was actually secretly anointed the first king of all of the tribes in Israel being he was chosen by the public population. Saul started off with a fresh start as king; he came from a well-to-do family, was tall, dark, handsome, and it was told there was no man taller than he. But, his peaceful start did not last long. During his reign he had a stand-off with the Philistines in the valley of Elah, unauthorized sacrificial offering, failed to eliminate all of the Amalekites and their livestock as commanded by God, and lied to God as well. The break between Saul and God is arguably one of the saddest occurrences in Scripture. Saul’s final act of disobedience included him falling on to his sword, and taking his own life.…
