Characters In Tangerine

There were many important characters in the book Tangerine. Five characters that I considered to be important are Paul Fisher, Joey Costello, Erik Fisher, Paul’s mom, and Paul’s dad. Paul Fisher is a 7th grader that has moved from Texas to Florida. He had coke-bottle cap glasses from some incident he can’t remember. He also plays goalie for soccer. Joey Costello is Paul’s new friend. Joey’s brother, Mike, had passed away earlier in the book, from getting struck by lightning while playing football. Joey also enjoys playing soccer. Erik Fisher is Paul’s older brother. He is a big-shot football player wherever he goes. Paul’s mom is part of the Homeowners Committee and likes to stick up for things she believes in. Last, but not least, is Paul’s dad. He liked to brag a lot about his son Eric, and is the new Director of Civil Engineering for Tangerine County.

One conflict was that Paul has to deal with his older brother always getting the attention from his dad. Erik, Paul’s older brother, is a star football player and Paul’s dad is always interested in what’s Erik is doing, instead of Paul. Paul is bothered by this, but doesn’t really share that with his parents. He usually plays soccer, which makes him feel better and more important. This is an internal conflict. One external conflict in the story was that the portables for Lake Windsor Middle School has been swallowed by a sinkhole. The town fixes this problem by changing the schedule so children can use the main building, which is safe.
