Characteristics Of Being A Leader
While there are many different qualities that a leader should have, and nobody can possibly have all of them, leaders should have as many of those qualities as possible. I believe that I am qualified to be an officer because I possess the qualities necessary to be an effective leader. I was raised in a very disciplined household, so I learned the value of discipline early. I know how important following rules is and they create a more orderly environment for everyone. I am also very determined. I will do anything to complete any task and I can not abandon something in the middle of it. I must finish everything to the best of my ability. This highlights the perfectionist side of me. I try my best to make everything as perfect as it can be. …show more content…
I strive everyday to respect those around me and sometimes I fall short, but I always try. As a leader, if you do not respect the team members, they will have no reason to respect you. Encouragement is also an imperative skill needed to lead a group or team. Any time we do skills or give critiques, I try my best to say something good and smile so they don’t feel bad about getting critiques. I think that as a leader, it is your job to build people up and make them feel better. If someone messes a skill up or forgets part of a dance, it is your job to make sure they know that it is okay. Respect and encouragement are both part of a larger quality; maturity. If you cannot be mature, you cannnot be a leader. I admit, I have a hard time acting mature sometimes, but when that happens, the first thing I try to do is apologize. Part of giving critiques and taking them is being mature and fair. People are going to try to make you mad, but you have to be mature and let it roll off your shoulder. I think that I do a fairly good job of not letting things get to me and being mature when I am talking to someone that might be a little difficult to deal with. Respect, encouragement, and maturity are the stepping stones to being a good leader, but more importantly, a good …show more content…
If you cannot take a comment or a critique well, it is going to be a hard year. My parents taught me that my opinion of myself is the only one that matters and I cannot control what others think of me, try as I might. I believe in myself and I believe that I am capable of leading this team. I am a very self-aware person; I know my limits. I know when I have done the wrong thing and I try everything in my power to make it better. I know what reaches I can push myself to and I know when to stop. I think that as a leader, you have to know your strengths, but also your weaknesses. You have to acknowledge that you are not perfect and there is room for you to improve. I am also fairly intelligent and I value grades and learning. Intelligence makes being a leader easier because people are more likely to respect you if they can look up to you in more than one aspect. However, it is important to know when to use your knowledge so you don’t come across as pretentious or stuck-up. I believe that these qualities make leading a team much easier on yourself and your

Prior to partaking in leadership 1, there were some traits I possessed and believed they were fit for a good leader but I soon came to understand that being a good leader is not all about the qualities I possessed or about doing things to please myself, but rather bringing out the best in others. “Our strength grows out of our weaknesses.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson. I have realized that I possess some weaknesses but the best thing is to attack these limitations and turn them into strength. I was not always…

You have to respect yourself before you can respect anyone else. As a student here at Royal High School I have seen many students that are very disrespectful to adults; they do not understand the meaning of character, if they did, they would do things differently. If one of my friends ever got out of line with an adult, I would tell them that their behavior is unacceptable, if I allowed my friend to act that way and I did not say anything, then I would be upholding them in their…

My third reason is, don’t be a selfish and disrespectful leader. If you are disrespectful and nobody likes you then nobody will follow you and take of what you say. If your selfish, then nobody will feel the need to be there and they won’t think of you as leader. My personal experience with this is, when I was in science class I was doing the whole experiment and the team felt like they were useless, so they just quit and left the experiment to me.…

One thing I have to be aware of is the power that comes with being a leader and how it involves behavior management. An effective leader has to understand the power one possesses and do right by it. Participants will envy the power I have not because I am abusing it but because the power is there. In certain situations when I am giving out commands some people can take it the wrong way and begin to disregard. It takes a self-disciplined leader to understand the situation and not act out of character. The goal is to create a positive atmosphere at all times even when a subject wants to challenge…

As a leader I will help people overcome their flaws and guide them to focus and reinforce their strengths by sharing my earlier experiences. I understand we are humans and make mistakes, but as a leader I will not punish but reflect the situation with the employee and work together to learn from it and find a solution to prevent it from happening again because the way I see it mistakes are just an opportunity to learn. Also, I will praise when an employee does a task right or goes beyond their normal assignment since I know how it feels when managers notice my good work. Praising and recognizing is a skill I have learned and I will continue to practice and to implement it as a leader because I believe in leadership by positive reinforcement. My…

Speaking of character when working with others, I have always shown politeness to the teachers and friendliness to the students around me. I have never refused a request for help, which I often get, and seek those who are in need of help. I have been taught that leaders are not born and that they are made. As a child, I learned what it took to lead, and how I should always apply myself and voice my questions and opinions. I strive to stay true to my beliefs and character, and this has led me to become a leader and example for both children and my classmates to follow. Although I am quiet and prefer to listening over talking, I set an example for my peers by being active in class discussions, getting involved in extracurriculars, being respectful to the staff and teachers, and being diligent and managing my time. Through doing these things and involving myself in the school, I have become a role model and example for my classmates to follow.…

Hey, it’s great to be a leader, right? There are privileges like less work for you and more work for your subordinates and get the credit from the efforts of your colleagues-NO, this is a very wrong notion. They will never respect you as a leader if you lead them an iron fist. What’s the point of being a leader if no one will follow you? Move with the principle that others matter as well and do what’s best for your group, not just you. Be honest and fair. Work hard. Play hard. Do your homework. Know what you are talking about and they will follow. Don’t ever mistake arrogance and intelligence for the same thing for they are quite different. Life will eventually teach you humility if your ego will swell up.…
