Character Analysis Of Melinda In The Story Speak

In the story Speak Melinda is being seen by other students on the bus is very different from how the readers are viewing Melinda. At the beginning of the story Melinda gets on the bus at the first stop and she decides that she will sit in the front in hopes that one of her friends would sit with her. In the story Melinda says, “If I sit in the front, it will make me look like a little kid, but I figured it is my best chance I have making eye contacts with one of my friends, if any of them decided to talk to me yet” (Anderson pg. 3). Along with that, on the inside she really wants to sit with a friend and avoiding sitting next to a stranger, also Melinda wants her friends to talk to her. Following, from the perspective of the other students they just see another student just sitting in the front row and not really thinking why she is doing that.
This especially, causes students to irritate Melinda if she is shy and by herself in the front row: “A guy behind me unwraps his breakfast and shoots a wrapper at the back of my head” (Anderson pg.3). In addition, this supports how people are unaware of the situation that Melinda is in and are going to pick on her because she is shy and sitting with no one. On the contrast, Melinda is not shy really shy and it is just she does not want to sit with strangers instead wants to sit and talk with friends. However, she can not find any of them which is causing Melinda to look bashful because she is sitting by all alone. In conclusion, how Melinda looks and how she actually feels is quite different because on the outside students are just seeing another student in tr front row and possible thinking that she is shy because she is sitting in the front row. In reality, she is not shy but actually just wanting to find a close and dearest friend to talk to and sit with and not with a stranger. However, she is finding it quite difficult because she can not find any friends or no friends of hers will come to talk
