In the book Bridge To Terabithia by Katherine Paterson, The main character Jess displayed astounding courage. Jess is a 10 year old boy with an extraordinarily large family but practically no friends living in the small town of Lark Creek Virginia. All summer, Jess trains to be the fastest in the grade, but a new girl, Leslie beats him in the first race of the year. His initial reaction is anger, he is cross toward Leslie on account of how brutal training he went through just to be beat the the new and only girl. On the other hand, Leslie tries to befriend him and is very successful. It was courageous for him to let go of his ego and pride to make friends with an enemy. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, both Atticus and Boo Radley are both courageous through the challenges they are faced with. Both of these men are citizens of Maycomb and create change within their town. Although Atticus and Boo Radley are very different people, they prove to be similar through their acts of courage.
