The cinematized versions of Niki Lauda and James Hunt effectively described motorsport’s ubiquitous appeal, in Ron Howard’s Rush. It is a rather embarrassingly barbaric allure, but unfortunately, it is one we; as a society; have not, and likely will never outgrow. People just love how close motorsport gets to death.…

Author Garth Stein has written multiple popular books but when word of his now New York Times bestseller, The Art of Racing in the Rain, got out, it was thought that he would not be able to pull off a novel from his perspective of choice: a common household pet. But he has done the impossible by taking aspects from his life such as his love of animals, his family and hometown, as well as car racing, then applied it to the fast-paced life of Enzo, a caring, an oddly human-like dog.…

Garth Stein in the novel, The Art of Racing in the Rain, tests how Denny’s, Eve’s husband and Maxwell, Denny’s father-in-laws, relationship guides their behavior towards each other, their fears through Eve’s illness and their personal love for her, causes them both to do things that held serious consequences. Stein supports his claims by contrasting their differences in handling the trials. The author’s purpose is to point out the dissimilarity in the way people handle sicknesses ending in death and the crisis the families sometimes go through afterward. The author writes in an emotional yet humorous tone for those who love dogs but for those who will enjoy a story of hope and love.…

The novel The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein is a novel about a dog named Enzo, who desperately wants to become a human. This is a novel about family, loyalty, and love, and reveals what it means to be human through the point of view of a dog. The plot is about the sudden loss of Denny's (Enzo's owner) wife, Eve, which pushes Denny’s in-laws to sue for the custody of Zoё, Denny's child. Stein’s use of dual timelines characterizes the inner human of Enzo’s consciousness; Enzo uses gorgeous metaphors to compare the conflicts in racing to the complications of life, to aspects of life such as injustice, death and loss, and the general conflicts that every human will eventually have to absolve in their life. An important…
