Change Reflection Paper
The change initiative that I decided to embark on is to overcome my habit of procrastinating. For the past few years, I have always had the tendency of leaving my individual assignments till the very last minute. I could not bring myself to start early, as the hardest part is always in the beginning. Breaking the inertia of status quo requires a lot of sheer willpower and it usually takes a great sense of urgency to create the need to act. Hence, because of the constant habit to delay, I struggled to submit my assignments on time and the quality of my work done was compromised. As a result of the consequences I have faced, I have decided to make this as my first priority of change. My goal for this change initiative is to make sure that I start on my individual assignments at least a week ahead of the deadline and have it completed 2 days before the submission date. I chose not to include group projects into the scope of consideration as this is my personal endeavour and I do not expect my teammates to follow along. Knowing that my first individual assignment was due on a Wednesday of week 4, I began preparing during the start of the third week. Initially, things went really well and my case assignment was half done by the third day. However, as I progressed, my complacency started kicking in. I thought that since I have already finished half, I could just focus on my other projects and have it completed by the weekend. Instead, I lost the momentum to work and only finished it the night before the deadline. Realising that I did not meet my goal in my first attempt, I was more determined to make it work the second time. I know that I had to use some sort of reinforcement, be it positive or negative, to get my act together. Thus, I decided to use a mobile app called “stickK” that would cost me real money if I did not achieve my objectives.
