The poem tells us the story of a teacher who feels that his efforts to teach a class of sixty students is an exercise in futality and uselessness, the teaher feels thzt there is a commu[nication btween him and pupil whom he is expected to teach ..he feels to teach these pupils means wastage of time and energy he finds his talent to be wasted and oll his efforts to teach these pupils are going down the drains. the poem breathes a spirit of disperation and dissappointment teacher is unable to evoke anykind of responce from childrens and he totally failed in inspiring them. hje finds his job thanjkless and warding than he wants to bell going on .......

HERE THE TEACHER COMPARES HIMSSELF TO A HUNTER AND HIS PUPIL TO HOUNDS OR HUNTING DOGS ..HIS PUPILS HAVE TO HUNT FOR KNOWLEDGE BUT THEY CANNOT BE CONTROLLED THE TEAC HER WANTS TO INSPIRE THEM AND URGE THEM TO ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE BUT THEY DONT NOT GET INTRESTED IN GETTING KNOWLEGE LIKE THE HUNTING DOGS THEY TRY THEIR UTMOST TO BREAK AWAY ...... STANZA SECOND

THE STUDENTS ARE NOT INTRESTED IN THEIR STUDIES THEY HAVE SPOILED THEIR BOOKS THE VERY SIGHT OF WHICH HURTS THE FEELINGS AND DIGINITY OF THE TEACHER .THEIR WRITTEN WORK IS ALSO DONE IN AN UNTIDY AND CARELESS MANNER.THE TEACHER HAS GROWN SICK OF ALL THIS.HEB FEELS THAT WORK IS BEING WASTED ....

THE TEACHER COMPARES HIS STRENGTH AND ENEFRGY TO FUEL.HE CONSIDERS HIS LIFE TO BE PRECIOUS HE IS NOT PREPARED TO WASTE HIS TIME ,ENERGY IN GETTING HIS DISINTRTESTED AND INDIFFERENT PUPILS INTRESTED IN THE PERSUIT OF KNOWLEDGE... MY LAST DEAR FUEL OF LIFE SUGGESTS THAT THE TEACHER IS OLD AND HE WANTS TO UTILISE HIS TIME AND ENERGY IN THE PERSUIT OF KNOWLEDGE ..THIS IS CONSTASTED WITH THE ATTITUDE OF HIS PUPILS WHO ARE INDIFFERENT OF THEIR STUDIES ..EVEN IF THE TEACHER MAKES AN EARNEST EFFORT AND TAKE PAINS TO GET HIS PUPILS INTRTESTED IN ACQURING KNOWLEDGE THEY WILL NOT SHED BTHEIR INDIFFERENCE ..THIS WILL HURT THE DIGINITY OF TEAHER THIS WILL BE NOTHING SHORT OF A PUNISHMENT FOR HIM SO HE MAKLE HIS MIND NOT TO WATSE HIS TIME AND ENERGY....

THE TEACHER THINKS THAT IT DOESNOT MATTER MUCH IF THE STUIDENTS CAN WRITE AN ESSAY ON A DOG OPR NOT ..IT HAS FUNCTIONAL VALUE OR PRACTICAL UTILITY HENCE HE FEELS TJHAT HIS TEACHING AND THE PUPILS LEARNING ARE BOTH PURPOSELESS... STANZA 5 THE TEACHER MEANS TO SAY THAT HE DOESNOT AND WILL NOT CARE WEATHER HIS PUPILS LEWARN OIR NOT . THE PUPILS TOO DOINOT CARE TOO MUCH BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO INCLINATION FOR LEARNING. IN SHORT THE TEACHER SHARES THE INDIFFERENCE O HIS PUPILS TO LEARRNING . IT SHOWS TEACHERS DISPERATION AND DESPAIR.....

Kids growing up in this era will have no imagination because it’s all straight forward stuff. Teacher get mad at you if you doodle on your paper or step out of line in the hall way. Kids won’t want to be creative because they won’t know what creative is. I find that the curriculum is to worried on getting the information to the kids other than letting them find out ways to show the information or talk about it.
