The American Revolution alone was the biggest and most dramatic change in our society to date. Its shadow is cast over us to this day. It has affected America in the politcal, social, and economical aspects of the newly formed country.
After the British completely left the colonies and America started anew, their political standpoint was completely overhauled into a representative democracy. No one thought this would work in a country so vast in size. Especially a newly formed one at that. With these new changes came new laws. Many of the northern states were abolishing slavery. In the new Northwest Territory an ordinance was sent to the government. "Article 6th. There shall be neither slavery nor involuntary servitude in the said territory, otherwise than in the punishment of crimes whereof the party shall have been duly convicted." (H) Slavery was one of the most influential things in the US. It had a massive politcal impact on the US. Another thing on the politcal standpoint, what shall be done with the Indians? After the Revolution Britain and the United States may have negotiated peace, but that did not include the Indians. "Bretheren of the United States of America: It is now more than three years since peace was made between the King of Great Britain and you, but we, the Indians, were disappointed, finding ourselves not included in that peace." (E) Following the Revolution the Indians were highly upset over the fact that America neglected to include them in any treaties whatsoever. Many Americans did not care for the natives and thought it was their right to expand across the continent. This eventually leads to Manifest Destiny in the late 18th century and caused alot of political turmoil as to where the indians shall be moved. Some Indians sent notes to congress as to what was the next step between their relations.
