Challenges and Rewards of the Teaching Profession
Do you agree with Peter Beidler about the challenges and rewards of the teaching profession?
Share your views on the problem

To begin with I’d like to say that teaching is probably one of the most difficult professions. It involves high responsibility because it’s a teacher who helps a child to form his personality, world outlook, to understand what is wrong and what is right. To be a good engineer you should work hard but to be a good teacher working hard isn’t enough. You have to be cut out for it.

I fully agree with Peter Beidler that the profession of a teacher is red-eye, sweaty-palm and sinking-stomach. It is red-eye because you never feel ready to teach no matter how long you have been preparing for the class. It is sweaty-palm because you’re always nervous before you enter the classroom, and it is sinking-stomach because you walk out an hour later convinced that you were even more boring than usual. But still teaching is a very rewarding profession. As the teacher says: - I teach because I like the freedom to make my own mistakes, to learn my own lessons, to stimulate myself and my students. As a teacher I’m my own boss. - I teach because I like to ask questions. Questions that students must struggle to answer. Because the world is full of right answers to bad questions. - I teach because I like to learn. I teach best not what I know but what I want to learn. - Teaching gives me variety, challenge and opportunity to keep on learning. It gives me many woods to enter, many fine books to read, many ivory towers and real-world experiences to discover. - And the main reason why he teaches is his students. These people grow and change in his presence. A promotion out of teaching would give him money and power. But he already gets paid for doing the things he enjoys most - reading books, talking with people, making discoveries and asking questions. From my point of view teaching is a noble profession. It requires full commitment and great responsibility. A teacher should be some kind of example for students for them to long for following him.

Teaching is undoubtedly an extremely demanding role to take on and as the quote by Donald D. Quin suggests, few are able to understand the pressures and stresses that this line of work brings. However, despite the intensity of this type of career, many are still filling up colleges and universities on training courses to do exactly this. Tony Buzan’s opinion above sheds light on maybe just a part of what drives people into assuming such a manic position in society. Training is a major part of becoming a teacher and all need this foundation to become the great teacher that they…

I have chosen to become a teacher because I myself am a product of someone whom I consider to be the best teacher in the world. As a child in Virginia, I was inspired by a wonderful coach and teacher named Mr. Scott Nunnaly. Mr. Nunnaly taught me that any dream was possible. If I put my mind to accomplishing any goal I could make it happen. Mr. Nunnaly inspired me to be the best I could be at anything I wanted to be. Through my childhood…

I believe that teaching being ‘the hardest thing ever done” is the same reason that it is so rewarding. If teaching was easy, everyone would be doing it. It takes a unique individual to step up to the challenge. Teaching is an opportunity to mold an individual from scratch into a masterpiece. Not all teacher/student connections work out and sometimes different variables prevent that master piece from being created, but that should not stop one who has the persistency to keep trying. You have to continue to work hard at your job while changing the lives of individual that you educate. Not all, are going to be success stories, but knowing that you have impacted at least one individual, is enough to keep trying while obtaining the knowledge and…

Why I want teach is a question as big as the sun. To teach is to pass knowledge and skill from one to another. For me to teach I am allowing my love for music to be passed to another student so that can carry on that passion. Even though I may not find myself in the classroom setting teaching everyday, I have learned that I possess the power to transform lives inside and outside the school setting. I firmly believe that some of the best teaching occurs beyond the classroom and within everyday moments. Some of the best educators I have had in my life were not just teachers but instead were people that walked along side me in life. These people educated and inspired me in ways that could not be taught within a textbook. Each educator that I have had within my life has molded the philosophy of which I believe we should teach and inspire others with. My philosophy is very different from most educators because I believe that the best…

Teaching itself is a very appealing job. As an educator, working with students to achieve a better education is a great experience. These people get to help students through the struggles of school and eventually be held accountable for some of the student’s success. This in turn creates a very gratifying atmosphere for a teacher, because not only are they somewhat liable for the success of a student, but educators are also important in teaching their students valuable life skills and career planning. These tools help students for the years that come after their education is over.…
