Cesar Chavez was a first-generation American born into a Latino-American farming family. Chavez was born nearby his family’s farm in March 1927. During the Great Depression, as millions of Americans lost their jobs and fortunes, his family had no choice but to become migrant farm workers. By age 10, Cesar Chavez was forced to experience the hardships of working first-hand. As Chavez’s laborious childhood turned into the struggle of adulthood, he continued the menial work, and soon concluded migrant farmers needed more rights.
