Historically Teaching Assistants were none teaching adults who helped qualified teachers carry out day to day preparatory and administrative tasks and provide pastoral care to children (Calyton 1993). In 1998 the Local Government Chronicle published a summary of a Green Paper (LGC 1998) which outlined that a greater number of better trained teaching assistants would be more effective.…

Higher level teaching assistants (HLTAS) have a variety of training requirements to adhere to for example numerical and literacy skills up to NVQ level 2 which ensures that they are able and confident in what they are teaching. HLTAS should also have a broad knowledge of learning strategies from independent to group within the curriculum to allow a pupil to fulfil their potential. HLTAS should also have a solid knowledge of the curriculum along with skills in curriculum development and delivery this is to allow HLTAS to be able to teach to a high standard and be aware of what a pupil needs to do to get them to move up a sub level or level in different subjects. In addition to this most HLTAS are required to have experience with the children that they are assigned to work with whether this be young children teenagers, special needs or gifted and talented. It is also recommended that HLTAS have a sound knowledge of ICT to allow this to be implanted across the curriculum and in order to adhere to certain procedures within the school such as using behaviour programmes online or for cross curriculum to be implanted. HLTA Assignment 1

The role of the HLTA, which was introduced in 2003 following workforce reform to raise standards and tackle workload in the classroom, is wide and varied, and awarded to support staff who meet the national HLTA standards. As well as providing support to the classroom teacher, the HLTA must undertake more complex tasks and tend to work more independently than other classroom-based staff. With guidance and instruction from the teacher, they often plan, prepare and deliver learning activities with individual pupils, groups and (in the short term) whole classes, and also assess, record and report on pupils' progress.…

Throughout the module TS1301 a trainee teacher experiences a wide range of emotions that change their outlook on the way they teach. These emotions range from the sublime to almost rock bottom, and as with everything in life it is individual and at that moment be it at the top or bottom no one has experienced this feeling before. Throughout the module you are required to observe teachers in their lessons, this gives the trainee teacher a valuable insight into how things should be done, a lesson learnt during an observation was to have a concurrent activity in place for those learners who are easily bored and work quickly. Other aspects of the module include written assignments on various subjects, one of those subjects is the roles and responsibilities of the teacher, in this assignment the trainee teacher researches the vast amount of roles to be undertaken by the trainee teacher and quickly becomes an eye opener into the world of education, the sheer quantity of roles can be overwhelming to some trainees and this is closely followed by the responsibilities that go with these roles. ‘’ Traditionally the role of the teacher has been as purveyor of information’’ (Reece and walker 2003 p3) this is simply no longer the case and the trainee teacher needs to understand the needs of each individual learner, and cater for the group as individuals not as a class. By undertaking this module the trainee teacher should take some of the knowledge and adapt their lessons accordingly, always keeping the emphasis on the learners getting as much out of the session as possible. Unfortunately with emotions running so high it’s inevitable that a clash of personalities will occur at some point, when a student fails an assessment they may become angry and that anger will undoubtedly end up at the trainee teacher’s door, at this point they may even be doubting themselves but it is important that as a trainee teacher they remain calm and objective, but above all…

    Cee 201 Final Project

Introduction What a better way to end the year in CEE 201 with a construction project that deals with bidding. Our studies throughout the year have been focused upon engineering economics transitioning into linear programming models in order for engineers to make educated decisions in real life situations. In order to supplement this thought process, the construction game was created that deals with placing bids, ordering labor, and hiring workers to make a year’s end profit. This game is structured around placing bids against other teams within the class for three rounds over three years. If the bid is won for your team, your company completes the project and the profit is later computed. As with every reasonable game, there are rules to be followed. Each team has secured a capital of ten million dollars total for the three fiscal years. Before bids are placed, your company must purchase all the concrete and labor that will be required throughout the year. Unused money will increase by four percent each year in the stock market while additional funds beyond the ten million venture of capital funding will be secured via a loan with a ten percent annual interest rate. With purchasing concrete and construction workers, there are constraints to find certain values. Each construction worker will work up to two thousand hours per year and receive an annual salary of fifty thousand dollars. Unions demand that hired workers are paid whether they are actually put to work or not and the unions have agreed that workers may divide their hours of labor between multiple projects. Each cubic yard of concrete costs one hundred dollars and includes cost of purchase and transportation. Unused labor does not carry over into the following year, but concrete does. Unused concrete can be salvaged for ten dollars per cubic yard at the end of year three. Unused labor will be sold to a temporary agency for fifteen dollars an…
