Cell Phones in class.
I don’t believe in having cell phones during class, just like a lot of others. Cell phones are distracting students who are around them, students are not paying attention, their entering phone numbers, playing games, and they are getting in trouble. Does this sound appropriate to you? Do you agree with having cell phones in class? If you say yes to these questions, I hope to persuade you by the end of ‘Cell Phones in Class’.
I have noticed many students have been texting during class. I don’t know who they would be texting; most of their friends should be in school. Sometimes people’s phones go off in class; it is a waste of time and annoying. I know for a fact that they’re paying more attention to their phones then they are to their teachers. I don’t know how they can learn anything this way or how they don’t fail.
I have also noticed if they get caught by the teachers, they lie about it! Um news flash, teachers aren’t stupid, they most likely know when you could be lying. I know that the teachers aren’t happy with this, but the students just don’t listen. Sometimes even after the teachers take away the phones, students are texting the next day! I understand if your phone is in your backpack or locker for afterschool hours, but you really shouldn’t bring it to class. Students need to stop taking advantage of the privilege to keep our phones in our lockers. Some schools aren’t even allowed to have phones in the building, such as Lebanon Middle School, Lebanon High School, and Central Elementary School.
I don’t know why, but lately more and more students have been texting during class. I actually found out that a lot of private schools allow texting and using your phones during school hours. I can’t figure out why teachers would let students use their phones during classes. Kids could be giving each other answers to worksheets, tests, homework, or quizzes by using texting. There are a lot of possible ways to cheat using phones.

Also, when someone gets his or her phone taken away, it becomes a big distraction to everyone and wastes class time. Cell phones in class can also lead to cheating.…

The second reason that students shouldn't be allowed to use cell phones in school for education is for the sake of the teachers, a teacher should not have to fight for the attention of his or her students due to technology. After twenty years of teaching history and ESL for Lowell High School, Miriam Morgenstern is quitting her job for multiple reasons. One of Morgenstern’s reasons for quitting is her students and their cell phones, she explains her frustration, “The texting, tweeting, and snapchatting during class time are ‘an incredible distraction, and makes it much more difficult to teach,’ she said. ‘It’s pretty hard to compete with a very funny YouTube video.’” It is unacceptable that students are using their phones while the teacher…

There is more than one side to the debate about cell phone availability during school. One claim is that students should be allowed to have their phones on them and use their cell phones during appropriate times. In the article, the authors provide details about how there are numerous reasons why cell phones should be allowed during school. Students should be allowed access to cell phones, because if they are responsible enough to be going off to college in a year or so, they should be responsible enough to have a cell phone on them and use it wisely (George and Cook). Another reason why cell phones should be allowed in school is because otherwise it can create a divide between the students and the teachers. Students are so invested in their phones, so if a teacher…

They say that to be able to use phone students need to learn how to use them appropriately. One of the main reasons for this rule is cheating on tests. Staff worries that if students have access to their phones during tests they will use them to their advantage, this is also why some teachers do not allow students to listen to music during a test. Students may also take advantage of these situations and go on social media, text friends, and use their phone inappropriately. Students can also get distracted if they are on their phones during a lesson. They could text a friend and if they reply back the phone could make a noise or it could vibrate and not only distract the student who's phone it is, but the whole class. Teachers say that if students want to be able to use their phones more they need to learn how to use their phones appropriately and responsibly. There can be lots of problems with phones at school but if students use them responsibly there will be little to no problems at all.…

First, teachers find cell phone extremely distracting and disrespectful. Honestly, teachers do not oppose texting in class because they are mean, or don’t want students to socialize, but rather for students benefit. In fact, they are trying to prepare us for our future and the lives we will go on to live after high school. But with cell phones, we are depriving ourselves of education! With our cell phones going off in class, to our classmates getting caught playing Angry Birds, cell phones are awfully disturbing to have in class. Teachers only want to prepare…

Texting in class is a very touchy subject, and can be argued from many different aspects. One of the main things though, is that texting in class would not be disruptive just for the student texting, but also to the students sitting around the student that is doing the texting. In this today’s generation, everywhere around us people of all ages and cultures circle around their cell phones in everything they do. Whether we are walking down the road, in the grocery style, in class, or even much dangerously, in driving, cell phones have grown to be a very vital part of our everyday lives. However, when it comes to cell phones and texting in the classroom, a very controversial answer is given between teachers and students. Students say they don’t see a problem with texting in class, teachers on the other hand, think otherwise. This is where the problem begins; teachers hold a very persuasive argument about why students shouldn’t be allowed to text in class or even use the cell phone at all. Students on the other hand, can also put up a somewhat reasonable argument as well.…

According to this article, many students do not even believe that texting their friend’s answers is cheating. They simply consider it helping one another (Miners). While one third of students admit to cheating, what about the other two thirds? Why should they be punished for being responsible with their phones? If we regulate the use of phones, cheating can be mostly prevented. During tests, the teacher can walk around the room to ensure the students are not using their phones to text answers, or look up information to…

We are very much aware of it. But some college students just let their cell phone control them. In 2012, an article was written by Arnold D. Froese along with fellow other authors about surveys and research about students who use cell phones in the classroom, stating that,”Many students admit to using cell phones for social networking purposes in the classroom” (Froese, etc). So if students know that they are distracting themselves, how can they be stopped? It’s not only that, but by getting caught in the cell phone web, they are hindering how well they do in class. The article tells about how an experiment was done in a class to see how well students who were to text during a lecture and that, “Ellis, Daniels, and Jauregui (2010) most directly assessed the effects of texting on performers in a real classroom context…..Experimental students scored significantly lower than control students did on a pop quiz at the end of class. Although this experiment comes directly from a classroom setting, sending a text message to a teacher who does not respond is likely not as distracting as a conversational texting dialogue”(Froese et al. 325). Cell phones are clearly a problem for the future of education. We need a way to fight…
