Celebrity-turned-politician: Did Lito Lapid make enough positive difference?
Manuel Mercado Lapid also known as Lito Lapid was born on October 25, 1955 in Porac, Pampanga. He was the fifth of nine children and was the youngest in the brood of five boys by Jose Lapid and Eleuteria Mercado. He finished his elementary education at Porac Central School in 1968, and secondary education at St. Catherine Academy for Porac, Pampanga in 1972. Lito was only 2 years old when his father died in the age of 28. And in his young age, he was forced to confront the harsh reality. His mother was a labandera so he found a way to help his family by doing odd jobs such as selling ice cream and pandesal. He was a working student in high school. After he finished high school, he tried his luck and went to Manila. He did bit roles in movies and was earning P15 a day. (Philippine Star, September 17, 2001) He later tried to become a stuntman just like his late father, who used to double Fernando Poe Sr. and his son, Fernando Poe Jr. This where he entered the show business and pursued his acting career. Due to these circumstances, he wasn’t able to enroll for his tertiary education and obtain a college degree. Right now, he is currently married to Marissa Tadeo and has 4 children namely: Maan Krista, Mitzi Karen, Maynard and Mark. (www.wikipedia.org)
“Unknown to many, Lito went through unthinkable hardships and sacrifices in life to get to where he is now. To say that he was unfortunate then would merely be an understatement, because he was dirt poor! He was so poor in fact that he didn 't have a pair of shoes when he was young…” Mother Lily, a prominent Filipino film producer and business women, said at a luncheon press conference she sponsored at the Imperial Palace Suites (cerphin.net)
Lito Lapid rose to stardom from his humble beginning as a stuntman to one of the country’s top action movie stars. In 1978, he made his first big movie when he was taking the role of the 60’s top action star, Jess Lapid, his uncle. The Jess Lapid true-to-life story was Mirick
