• Allied Control Council(ACC)-made up of USSR, US, France and UK ACC met up regularly to ensure a flow of info between different zones
• March 20 1948 -London meeting was not mentioned at the ACC and Eastern zone representatives wanted to be filled in on what happened during the meeting- Western officials refused
• “What’s the point of ACC if you’re not gonna tell us what happened in London”- USSR part representative Caused the Russian party to walk out
• Soviets wanted the West out of Berlin + Fears of war growing in the Western side caused a rise in tensions
• All the meanwhile, the Western zone planned a new currency to only be used in the Western Zone-caused all old currency to be rendered worthless
• Pro-Socialist/Communist party leader saw new currency as a threat led to confrontation with Reutter and other pro Western political groups and organizations
• Tense atmosphere arises
• June 23 1948 the Deutsch mark was officially introduced in the Western side
• Soviets issued their own currency which would be valuable in all of Berlin unlike the D-mark, one day before the circulation of the D-mark + 1 D-Mark was worth 7 more times than the Eastern equivalent.
• June 24 1948- Soviets retaliate by cutting off necessary supplies to the West with the Berlin Blockade
