Over the past decade, the vitamins supplement market in mass prosperity in the UK, this is mostly due to the fact that with the development of technology, people are beginning to realize the vitamins plays an important role to maintaining people’s health. But due to the consumers lack the knowledge of vitamin supplements, it has emerged a series of issues about excessive use or lack of vitamins. The essay will first talk about the causes and results of the deficiency or overuse of the vitamin in the UK. Following that, it will mention the government how to solve these problems.
The main cause of excessive intake the vitamin supplements is blamed on people without the correct knowledge of vitamin. A large amount of intake could lead to two kinds of results, one is for water soluble vitamins such as vitamin B8 and C, and people don't have the amount of absorption will only be the human body to discharge, people haven't absorb equal to the waste of money, and the other is for some fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamins A and D, excessive intake also can cause some side effects, like abdominal pain and vomiting (Emma Williams).
On the other hand, as we know, the human body needs all the vitamins to function properly and maintain health, so lack any of vitamins will cause serious disease. A good example for Britain is the lack of vitamin D. Vitamin D is one of the few vitamins human’s body can't have their own replacement which must absorb from the outside world, and in the sun to get vitamin D, but in Britain sunshine time is too short so it's easy to lack of vitamin D. Of course, food also includes a small amount of vitamin D, such as eggs, meat, oily fish, and cheese. The mainly group who need supplement are: pregnant and breastfeeding women, more than 65-year-old people, six months to 5 years old children and so on (Sally Davies), lack of vitamin D can due to fractures, SIDS and other diseases.
