The Causes and Effects of Global Warming. The recent realization of our planet’s continually warming climate is one of modern societies biggest worries. Global warming is not only devastating to our planet, but will likely shorten our species’ lifespan considerably if it continues at its current pace. There are three main causes of global warming: air pollution, deforestation, and the increase in usage of chemical fertilizers. These actions have been engrained into our way of life so permanently that their consequences are starting to have profound effects on our planet. The causes of global warming must be stopped soon, or else the effects they have on Earth may become irreversible. The effects caused by global warming will soon greatly impact survival of the human race. The most obvious cause of global warming is air pollution and its prolonged presence in Earth’s atmosphere, leading to the shrinkage of the polar ice caps and the destruction of coral reefs, which affect the lives of many animals. This effect is largely due to the holes in our atmosphere that are caused by the “greenhouse gases” that stem from air pollution. This factor of global warming is slowly contributing to the extinction of Earth’s arctic and tropical species’ of animals. If many of these animals were to become extinct, than the planet’s food chain would be thrown out of balance, causing other animals who were not directly affected by the climate change to die due to lack of prey for example. This change In the food chain might become severe enough to even affect all living organisms, including humans. While this might take many more years of global warming to occur, the effects will be catastrophic.
