Cause And Effect Essay On Drinking And Driving
Drinking and driving has many consequences that can destroy people's lives. Intoxicated victims of car crashes sustain worse injuries and are more likely to be seriously injured than sober victims. Drinking while driving is a serious crime all over the world, most of these victims are teenagers. If a driver is pulled over for driving in a manner that suggests possible intoxication, law enforcement officers can employ a variety of methods to determine if the driver is driving under the influence. Police may ask the driver to complete field sobriety tests, such as walking in a straight line or standing on one leg. What is drinking and driving? It is the act of operating a car while under the influence of alcohol. In the book Alcoholism by Dr. Alvin Silverstein and Virginia Silverstein (77), Silverstein states "Alcohol can slow down a person's reflexes which decreases the ability to react to sudden change." Silverstein also revealed "Eye, hand, and foot coordination is reduced because of alcohol." Rational decision making and …show more content…
Millions of people have been killed in alcohol related accidents, 90 percent of those people were innocent bystanders who were going on about their day minding their own business. Drunk drivers are people who make stupid mistakes ...mistakes they can't fix. Those drivers are the cause of many deaths of innocent bystanders...drunk drivers are the killers of themselves and others. Drunk drivers are murderers...they earn a title that haunts them to the day they die. This title takes away all trust people had for these drinkers...this title takes away all a person's hope and dreams turning them into nothing but mindless alcoholics. Though drunk drivers face punishments as serious as jail time, the consequences of their actions do not generally keep them from getting behind the wheel.

    DIU, or Driving under the influence is a huge killer among young people in America. Many young people have been killed because of the effects of driving under the Influence of Alcohol. More than one-fourth of college students age 18 - 24 have driven in the past year while under the influence of alcohol. This statistic can grasp anyone by surprise. Driving drunk is much more common in today’s society than we sometimes think. Traffic crashes are the major cause of death for children in the age group 0-14. Almost one quarter of these deaths are alcohol related. Many young people have had their lives shattered from the effects of drunk driving. Many teens have ended their lives and the lives of the passengers in their automobiles. When you drink, alcohol from the drink is absorbed into your blood stream. Various tests have been designed to measure the level of alcohol in your blood. In most states, if your blood alcohol level is greater than .10, you are presumed to be too intoxicated to safely operate an automobile. However, you can still be drunk even if your blood alcohol level is less than .10. Most teens don’t even realize the effects a drink can have on their ability to drive a car. Alcohol affects the senses in out body. It causes the human body to react slower to things that happen. Alcohol also distorts your vision making in nearly impossible to drive while under the influence of alcohol. There are several common myths about alcohol usage such as how everyone drinks, alcohol gives you energy and how driving with someone who is drunk can be safe because they drive extra carefully so they don’t get pulled. However, these myths are false. Although 31% of teens said they've drank alcohol in the past month there are still 69% who haven’t. Therefore, when you choose to not drink, you are never alone.
