Catholic Social Justice Teaching Research Paper
Catholic social justice teachings is the heart of the catholic teachings. Inside the heart is love, love is the reason that everyone is thought the Catholic Social Justice teachings. I have chosen to do my interview with Mrs. Dona at St. Theresa Catholic school, she does the backpack buddies for kids who don't have food to eat over the weekend. She helps kids whose parents don't have enough money to feed them. She packs fruits and vegetables to help them have something to eat. This is located at St. Theresa Catholic school. It happens at the end of the week, every week. The agency was started by Mrs.castellino but, when she got too busy Mrs.Dana took it over. Dona is the only person who does backpack buddies. She gets donations from others and also gets money from some youth groups. One of the challenges that she has to face is when she goes to buy food she has to try to get the most food that she can for the amount of money she has.She says it is a struggle to get health, and cheap food and have enough to give to everyone. She says that she feeds at least 23 people and that they share with their friends who are in the same position. There are no employees everything has to be done by Dona. That people donate food. She also says that she gets a lot of food from our school and from people who bring it in. She gets a lot of the money from youth ministries. The organization is based on people giving. Mrs. Dona keeps all the food on shelves and keeps stock but every week she goes out to buy fruits, but also has a lot of canned goods. The clients are mostly Big families that can’t afford food for everyone. Also She has people who have a parent that may have lost a job and are really low on money. One of the things she told me about was the fact that you would never accept kids who go to a catholic school be low on food when they go home. Which is why st. Theresa is so diverse and makes us different and

    As apart of my service, I assisted in helping the community as well as others through the Notre Dame Annual Pilgrimage, Harvest Kitchen at St. Kevin’s Roman Catholic Church and participating in the Notre Dame Walk Against Male Violence. In October of 2010, I walked and raised money for the annual Pilgrimage at our school which involved trudging the distance from our school to the Allenburg Bridge. The money raised assisted those in third world countries mainly going to a facility called Yancana Huasy intended for the use by mentally and physically challenge young adults. The money is also sent to Haiti, Peru and the Dominican. As a volunteer for Harvest Kitchen my responsibility was to help deliver the meals to the people as well as work the handicap elevator in order to assist immobile people. Other duties included clearing dishes, socializing with others, setting up and serving food and drinks.
