Peter teaches us, followers of Christ, key things to truly follow Christ. In 1 Peter, he stresses that Christians are to be God 's obedient children, "chosen race, royal priesthood, holy nation, God 's own people" (1:14). Us as Christians are striving to be a “human-like” Jesus if you will. We are God’s people on Earth doing his work for the work of Him. One example of a true believer is that you have encountered the true and living God and that you have undergone a change in your heart and soul. Another is realizing that the sacrifice of Christ alone for the forgiveness of his sins, then the Holy Spirit has come and lives in that person. The last example of being a true believer is that you are changed on the inside, not controlled from the outside. It means that your heart has been changed by the presence of God. These are just a couple of definitions that define a true follower. In the CCC 916 it states: “…to give themselves to God who is loved above all and, pursuing the perfection of charity in the service of the Kingdom, to signify and proclaim in the Church the glory of the world to come.” This paragraph supports Peter’s teachings about being a true follower of Christ. James 5 includes a review of two teachings from the two Gospels of Luke and Matthew. These two Gospels are both the same because they both state that if you lie you are essentially turning away from God. That is the point of there Gospel they are trying to get across. However, they are different in details. They are different because in Luke he is saying if you lie, you are turning away from God. In Matthew he states that if you lie, you are becoming a part of the devils work. James’ promise for those who “bring back sinners” is that God is and will always be there for you no matter what you do. You can not turn away from God unless it is your own choice. 1 John and John are very similar, but there is a slight change between the two. The change in the two is that in John, he says

By using donated money from the people of St. Louis, the ACA helps everyone out by using the money for various different needs. These include: schools, soup kitchens, families, the homeless, and everyone else in the community. Through the help from the community, the ACA was able to raise over thirteen million dollars, all from donated money. When comparing the New Hampshire Baptist Confession of Faith (NHBCF) to the Treatise on Faith and Practice of the Free Will Baptists (TFPFWB) the most significant observation is that the New Hampshire Baptists were Calvinists and the Free Will Baptists derive from the Arminian faith. The analysis of these two movements which are so closely related in time and foundational beliefs is enough to make one wonder what diverging ideas would distinguish one from the other and how are those differences are expressed in their Confession of Faith statements respectively.…

First, James sometimes quotes the preaching voice of our Lord verbatim. Just consider James 5:12, "Above all, my brothers, do not swear -- not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your 'Yes' be yes, and your 'No,' no, or you will be condemned," (NIV, emphasis mine). The italicized portions of this verse represent nearly verbatim quotations found in Matthew 5:33-37.…

Saint Ignatius of Loyola was the founder of the Jesuits. He founded the society of Jesus, but before accomplishing his goal he had to suffer and struggle a lot. Saint Ignatius was born of a wealthy family and grew up surrounded by luxury and riches. He had everything in the world a person could want but he wanted glory. He had a goal to accomplish which he had to focus on. Saint Ignatius also had his bad habits like gambling and drinking. I think that almost everybody has their own weakness or habit in their lives that end up to screw their lives. Even though Saint Ignatius loved drinking and gambling he had to focus on what he wanted.…

In Matthew 26:41 Jesus tells Peter that his heart his willing but his flesh his weak. This has been the story of the life of Peter portrayed by Matthew. There is no questioning his desire to follow and serve Jesus. However, readers are often left to wonder if Peter was bipolar because with his acts of greatest came the many mishaps. If we presuppose the validity of the two-source hypothesis, Matthew has drawn his materials on Peter at least partly from Mark. The latter puts greater importance on Peter, but it is clear that Matthew has lends even greater prominence to Peter, albeit negative and positive. Peter, as described by Jesus, is the stumbling block to his call installed by the devil (Matt. 16:23), yet he is the person with whom Jesus…

I agree that Christians suffer some kind of discrimination in an environment where Christianity is less valued. I think the reason why in America Christians don’t suffer as much because most people have religious tolerance. Other than suffering is worth it. I think that Peter wants us to persevere because Christ has also suffered to save us from our sins. Also, Peter wants us to follow Christ who suffered because of His faith in God. Now, it is our time to sacrifice because we believe in God and Christ.…

Anthropology 344 12/13/10 Guam - Death, Family, and Tradition The people of Guam, also known as Chamorro, have a unique burial practice that aims to assist the dearly departed in the afterlife. In present day, the people of Guam are majority Catholic and celebrate Catholic traditions with a mixture of their cultural traditions. Their practices date back to the ancient Chamorro belief system of ancestral worship, but have since been comingled with Catholicism brought by the Spanish in 1521. They believe in the power of prayer and how it can affect the destination of ones soul. Chamorros spend nine days before and after a person is buried to help guide a spirit to heaven. I had the pleasure of experiencing their ritual and took the account of a local man to help explain their practices that are dissimilar to the burial practices of regular Catholic traditions. I attended a lisayu, or rosary recital, of a friends uncle who had recently died. The lisayu is the practice of reciting the rosary twice a day in honor of the dead. This ritual is usually held at the home of the deceased or at the church parish where the deceased practiced faith. The lisayu is a religious event open to family and friends, so there is kind of an inherent need for a place that can hold a large gathering. As I arrived at the residence of the deceased, I immediately noticed the house surrounded by 5-6 tents and about 300 or so chairs that were set out for guests. As people arrived and took their seats, there was an air of silence that everyone maintained. People sat and waited for the rosary to begin, but were sure to be as silent as possible. It seems as if it is a sign of disrespect to make noise or do any action that disrupts the grievance process. If there are any neighbors surrounding the residence, they are either in attendance at the prayer or are aware of the need to pay the same respect of silence as if they were in attendance. It is almost as if I were attending a funeral…

The Book of James starts out teaching believers to test their faith. James 1:3-4 says because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. He tells us to put our faith into action, “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead”. He goes on to describe how without works, faith is ineffective. “You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.” (2:22) In order to show evidence of our faith in Jesus, we must do good works. James goes on to tell us we are all sinners, and that one sin is as bad as many. If you have broken one commandment, you have broken them all. “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all” (2:10) He warns us about being quick to anger and that we need to stop and listen. “My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.” (1:19-20)…
