    Catullus

The first example of this effectiveness in expressing Catullus’ state of mind is in the first line when it says etsi me assiduo confectum cura-although I am worn out by continual grief. Evidently this is showing the great extent of Catullus’ depression due to his brother’s death. This point is reinforced literarily by the emotive presence of the emphatic word assiduo-continual, showing the true magnitude of the cura-grief itself. Additionally the structure of the line itself and the positioning of the words themselves instrumented by Catullus again very effectively expresses Catullus’ feelings for his brother. assiduo confectum cura-worn out by continual grief. It is as if the sandwiching of the word confectum-worn out by assiduo and cura is in a sense as if the word itself is literally being worn out by the other two by being sandwiched. Of course, also the passive voice used in confectum to express the fact that Catullus’ is the victim of the upset caused by the death of his brother and he himself if passively being worn out.…

    Catalase

Catalase is a common enzyme found in nearly all living organisms exposed to oxygen. It catalyzes the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen. It is a very important enzyme in reproductive reactions. Likewise, catalase has one of the highest turnover numbers of all enzymes; one catalase molecule can convert millions of molecules of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen each second. Catalase is a tetramer of four polypeptide chains, each over 500 amino acids long. It contains four porphyrin heme (iron) groups that allow the enzyme to react with the hydrogen peroxide. The optimum pH for human catalase is approximately 7, and has a fairly broad maximum (the rate of reaction does not change appreciably at pHs between 6.8 and 7.5). The pH optimum for other catalases varies between 4 and 11 depending on the species. The optimum temperature also varies by species.…

Due to the simple fact that Catal Huyuk is the only Neolithic site found on record, it is difficult to judge whether or not such architecture was typical of this period or not. Although Paleolithic and Neolithic tribes were thought to be primarily nomadic, it is not impossible (as demonstrated by Catal Huyuk) for them to settle, especially with the development of domesticated animals.…

April 1919 saw one of the most momentous events in the history of trade unions in Ireland. On the 11th of April British Military Authorities imposed Martial Law on Limerick City in response to the reaction, by the workers of Limerick, to the death of Robert Byrne, a leading trade union and republican activist in the city. As a result of the imposition of Martial Law, the Limerick United Trade and Labour council (LUTLC) called a general strike which received widespread support from the city’s workers. The general strike organised by the LUTLC became known as the Limerick Soviet. During the course of the next 11 days the Soviet Committee ran all the important aspects of the city, including transportation and food supply. The Limerick Soviet appealed for support from the Irish Labour Party and Trade Union Congress (ILPTUC). When representatives of the ILPTUC visited Limerick they gave the clear impression that a nationwide general strike would be called in support of the workers. But instead of calling a general strike, the ILPTUC proposed the evacuation of Limerick City by its workers and their families. This proposal was rejected out of hand by the soviet strike committee and, realising the soviet couldn’t be sustained indefinitely they called off the strike on April 25th. This essay will look at the events to the run up to and during the Limerick Soviet.…

DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING refers to manipulating analog information, such as sound or photographs that has been converted into a digital form. DSP also implies the use of a data compression technique. DSP refers to various techniques for improving the accuracy and reliability of digital communications. The theory behind DSP is quite complex. Basically, DSP works by clarifying, or standardizing, the levels or states of a digital signal. ADSP circuit is able to differentiate between human-made signals, which are orderly, and noise, which is inherently chaotic.…
