Cassie’s Characteristics of Courage
Courage takes four character traits, Strength, Guts, and Glory, But you also have to believe in failure. The character that i believe showed the most courage in the novel Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, By- Mildred D. Taylor is Cassie.Cassie's actions and thoughts should she was a regular girl who very courageous in many moments in the book. The three main moments in the book where cassie showed her courage are when she stood up to mr. barnett to a point of making his blood boil, she fought her rival ,Lillian Jean until Big Ma stopped her, and finally helped T.J when he was wounded even though he was a liar who may not have helped cassie if she needed it. This is why i believe that cassie is the most courageous character in the book.

J. knocks at the Logan's door. Cassie quietly lets him into the boys' room. He is badly hurt. T. J. explains that he went with Melvin and R. W. to Strawberry, thinking that they were going to buy him a pearl-handled pistol he had been wanting. Instead, they rob the store and injure the owners. The White boys were wearing masks.as T.J. was talking about how it's gonna be ok when Cassie blurted out,”I know everything's gonna be ok cause’ I’m gonna tell papa.”(Taylor pg 249) cassie knew that any adult would know what to do but T.J. objected. Just after T. J. goes inside, a lynch mob drives up and begins to beat up T. J. and his family. The mob thinks that T. J. and some other black children were responsible for the robbery. In fact, Melvin and R. W. are a part of the mob. Mr. Jameson arrives to try to break up the mob, but they threaten to continue to the Logan property and hang T.J.. When papa and mama are unaware of what is happening cassie tell Stacy,”You promise you won't go down there by yourself.” cassie said bravely.     Showing courage isn’t always the easiest thing to do, it requires sacrifices to do the right thing. Throughout the book, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry Mildred D Taylor uses Stacey as an example of a boy who shows courage, despite everything that is going on during this period of time. For example, Stacey took the cheat notes from his best friend, T.J. and got blamed for it. Stacey had also showed courage when he helped T.J. get back home after the Simms brothers had beat him up.     What is courage? According to dictionary.com, courage is the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain etc., without fear; bravery. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, both Atticus and Boo Radley are both courageous through the challenges they are faced with. Both of these men are citizens of Maycomb and create change within their town. Although Atticus and Boo Radley are very different people, they prove to be similar through their acts of courage. Though their acts of courage are similar, they both generate change to different aspects of their lives.
