Obviously if they aren’t sharing that they are courting yet, then Lawson might not want everyone to start speculating after seeing this post. The Duggar family flew into Tennessee just 10 minutes away from the Bates family home and so it is pretty easy to assume who picked them up at the airport. They were there overnight and it looks like the Duggars had a great time…

Jamie should be charged with Incest, a 3rd degree felony under Florida law. Florida statute 826.04 defines Incest as: Whoever knowingly marries or has sexual intercourse with a person to whom he or she is related by lineal consanguinity. Because Jamie knowingly started to have sexual relations with his 14 year old sister Cersei since the beginning of summer and this violates our Florida statute, he is guilty of incest under Florida Law.…

They did an interview with Counting On for a promo and talked about their parenting. This is what drug up the blanket training scandal and the other beliefs the family follows when it comes to raising children. Duggar mentioned how they both look to their mothers for advice on what do to with Israel. Dillard mentioned how "manipulative" his son knew how to be which also drew heavy criticism. Human nature cannot be trained out of a child and fans snapped back about how Israel is just a child and expressing what he believes to be his wants and…

I would advise a couple who was attempting to blend their families through marriage to first seek counseling for the entire family. An outside person would be able to hopefully get true feelings from the children and if they needed to work through any past issues that may come to play after the families begin living together. I would also encourage each parent to assure they spend quality time with their own children and also make time to connect with the other spouse’s children. I agree with Dr. Haveman when she says the “children should be given adequate time to get use to the idea of remarriage”, although I am not sure this is always the case, because what is adequate time? (Blended Families: Help and Hope). Since I was a single parent…

In The Family Crucible, a unique way of looking at family therapy is used. This approach probably would not be something that would be done by therapist now. The more that we study systemic approaches the less I believe that there are any individual problems. With that being said there is a long reach that effects of parenting has on a child.…

Growing up in the mid 1980’s I can remember watching the Cosby Show. My family and I fell in love with the Huxtable family. The show was funny, witty, and dealt with serious issues at some times. It was also the first show that portrayed a black family living a successful middle class life style. The show’s concepts were very unusual to me, because around that time we thought America dealt with majority Caucasian problems and shows. Growing up in a dysfunctional home in which my mother was always under lots of stress and my father was to drunk to care about how we live our lives it was just a sad fact of family life at that time. At the time it didn’t seem like it was a bad way to live. That is until I discovered a different aspect of family life and values. The family values displayed in the Cosby show were things that I had never seen before. It was a complete shock…

Today, the media’s portrayal of family life is mainly accurate, even though some portrayals may depict otherwise. Many movies show how families interact and give back to their communities. For example, in the move The Blind Side, the Tuohy family offers up their home to a homeless boy, Michael Oher. This one good deed reflects family life accurately as it shows how families do charity work. Although many families do not give back to their community in such an extreme way, it is promising to see that the media portrays this aspect of family life. Another example where family life is depicted realistically is in Disney’s…

What does family mean to you? “People you share love with a guess. I don’t think that it means only blood relation. Friends can be family because you can become so close and trust each other,” explained Bridgett Terry, the subject of my ethnography interview. What is family? She went on to describe that technically family is a social group made of parents and their children, whether they all live together or not. No matter where you are in the world, your family is always your family. It is not a geographically relative term. However, the concept of family can be less strictly applied to everyday life. For example, a person can have many different families. Some are of choice and some are ascribed. Some types of families may be preferred over…

Although these two shows depict different time periods, they can arguably be a model for American culture or possibly a gauge in the temperature of what American culture looks like. In American Family there is a scene where one of the young men is talking about California and how he feels about it. Just the use of his language or the words in which he chooses gives the audience an idea of the language that was used during that time period. Another example of this is when the family visits the art gallery.…
