Case Study: The 68th Reunion
This has been the Dorsey Family motto for decades, and a poignant statement for today…

Due to matters needing resolution at the Oklahoma Avenue site, the 2017 Dorsey Family Reunion will be held at a New Venue on a New Date, with New Opportunities to bond and share with your fellow Dorseys.
On October 15th, a group of us, representing 3 branches of the Dorsey Family tree, met to reflect on the last family reunion and address some of the obstacles to holding the 68th at the Dorsey Family building. No issues can stop the Dorseys from reuniting.
The first change is the date: The 68th Reunion will be held on SUNDAY (yes you read that right… Sunday) September 3, 2017. Mark your calendars!!! The date is set!

My family is very different from others. We love to hang out with each other every two years. There was fun and hilarious times, but the best the time was last year. My mom and dad wanted a nice relaxing vacation with our uncles, aunts, and cousins at Tennessee because it has been almost two years and a lot can change over two years. Therefore, we tell them that we’re going to see them for a few days and they were excited. On July, we left our home and we hit the road.…

This reunion was going to be very different from past reunions, yet at the same time it was still going to be the same in many ways. We would still be able to swim but instead of in a pool with tons of other kids, restricted by life guards if our swimming wasn’t the best that day; the swimming would be in the channel leading from Upper Post Lake to Lower Post Lake. The reunion would have games, some old and some new and instead of just celebrating the August birthdays we were going to celebrate all of the summer birthdays. My Uncles set up the volleyball net that also served as our badminton net, and then we set up croquet which we had never been able to play in the past.…

Once a year, with the routine of a Delaware Park, millions of people claiming to be my kin would storm my hometown. The family did not appear little by little, but as an actual overflowing of oddness, and often senility. The family’s elders, in their twenty-year-old gas guzzlers, circled the town like vultures, finally nesting at the middle of the pavilion. As the rusty doors squeaked open in protest, I could almost hear old school songs blasting deathlike through my mind. It was time for the annual family reunion, and I dreaded it as much as a trip to the dentist because to a youngster like me, everyone was old as Einstein and as bizarre as Moe, Larry, and Shemp.…
