Aiken, SC often thought of as a shining star in the shadow of Augusta is harboring its own shadow at our very own Aiken Regional Medical Center. With more than two-hundred volunteers within our community answering phones and brightening your stay, the volunteers themselves, most of whom are retired and on fixed incomes, are being extorted and exploited. A volunteer at the hospital told me they must purchase a vest at their own expense, pay dues which go for scholarships for local nurses, participate in fund raising for the hospital, and if the volunteers don’t show up, often that area will be left unattended.     Yes, I do agree with the court that such a law and the actions taken fall within the realm of a special needs search. I argue that looking at a patient prescription could be very useful to law enforcement. Especially, since prescription drugs are so popular in today’s society. If law enforcement is noticing that an enormous amount of deaths are occurring in the community due to an over dosage of pills then it’s important to look at the prescription being subscribed. Mostly likely there is a doctor that is prescribing these medications and if law enforcement can review patient’s prescription they can possible find a pattern.
