Edgewood Lake Hospital (ELH) which opened in 1945, is a 30-bed, independent, not-for-profit hospital located in rural northern California. It provides inpatient and outpatient services to the close-knit community that resides within the forested and lakeside town the facility is nestled in. Although it is known for its great track record for quality and is held in high regard by the surrounding community, it has steadily experienced financial losses from 2006 through 2009. These losses can be attributed to factors both internal and external to the facility itself.…

Eighty percent of patients at RRMC were Medicare or Blue Cross and the administration experienced much difficulty when it came to negotiating prices with Blue Cross due to monopoly”(Richards & Slovensky, 2004). In this market, buyers have high bargaining power because reimbursements rates are low. Because Medicare and Blue Cross held monopoly in these services area, negotiating prices remained extremely difficult for RRMC. The suppliers have lower bargaining power due to low Medicare reimbursements and difficulty negotiating prices with Blue…

Yes, I do agree with the court that such a law and the actions taken fall within the realm of a special needs search. I argue that looking at a patient prescription could be very useful to law enforcement. Especially, since prescription drugs are so popular in today’s society. If law enforcement is noticing that an enormous amount of deaths are occurring in the community due to an over dosage of pills then it’s important to look at the prescription being subscribed. Mostly likely there is a doctor that is prescribing these medications and if law enforcement can review patient’s prescription they can possible find a pattern. For example, if there is a doctor that is providing all of his patients with a 120 oxycodone pills per month then that could be a problem. There is no way possible that every patient should get the same amount of pills each month. In the past there were doctors caught being paid a certain amount of money to prescribe whatever the patient wants. I know for a fact there are plenty of…
