Congestive Heart Failure, is also known as heart failure cardiac decompensation, cardiac insufficiency, and cardiac incompetence, all having the same meaning; that the heart is failing. The heart has lost its pumping efficiency, therefore the heart is decompensating. No matter which type of heart disease a person has all heart disease require a lifelong need of management. If maintained and treated properly a person can live longer instead of dying suddenly.

If a person is walking they may need periods of rest to catch their breath. Sometimes these symptoms go unnoticed because fatigue is a common with aging. For a patient who is having difficulty breathing place patient in a high flowers position and provide oxygen to be delivered. According to the Textbook of Basic Nursing “Pressure-reducing devices often are used because the client with CHF is at risk for skin breakdown. Dyspnea and fatigue can interfere with the client’s ability to move. Plus, circulation is deceased in areas where edema is present” (Rosdahl & Kowalski, 2012). It is very important to administer the patients medication on times and monitor if therapy if effective if not notify the provider. Have the patient participate with care because once the patient goes home they must administer medication and provide therapy on their own. Instruct patient that if the heart rate is below 60 hold Digoxin and notify the provider. Teach the patient possible side effects and adverse reactions such as GI problems, headache, blurred vision, and seeing everything in a yellow
