Summary
We discover several issues in this company. First, we would discuss problems in Model 802. The main problems are due to lack of formalization, specialization and clear goals. Second, we would analyze each department and gave our suggestion. In conclusion, we recommend this company to reengineer their organization structure from functional grouping horizontal structure. In that way, they could solve most of problems which existed because of the design of organization.
Problems in Model 802: lack of formalization, specialization and clear goals
We found the main problems of delays of Model 802 are in few rules, too overlapping tasks and no clear goal between the design apartment and engineering department. First, this company should have written rules about changing the design. Once the design apartment sent the draft, it should not adjust again. If they change the design again, they cause trouble to the production apartment. Second, the employee should follow one supervisor. However, in this company, engineers should do the tasks from engineering managers and design managers. It would make employees confusing. Third, there seems to be no clear goal between two departments. One of managers hoped no last minute change on design. However, another manager kept changing the design in the last minutes. In summary, we stated problems to cause the delays of this product are lack of formalization, specialization and clear goals.
Organization structure: functional grouping Based on Rondell’s organization chart, it is clear shown that Rondell is in a functional structure. There are several pros and cons in this kind of structure. It enables organization to accomplish functional goal. For example, in this company, design apartment want to make a perfect design.
