Many motivation measures are in practice at Kellogg’s and it demonstrates that highly motivated employees can improve efficiency, output and quality when positive motivation is in effect.
Theories of Motivation
Maslow and Herzberg share similar views. The similarities are found in what is Herzberg’s idea of hygiene. This is directly part of work conditions, safety of employees, and relationships amongst co-workers. These are all vital elements of a positive work environment and therefore leands to both self-motivation and employer motivation. An employee would certainly not be positive in a work place without these elements in the company. According to Maslow Theory of Need, each stage of motivation cannot be achieved without the order of the five stages being followed. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is laid out in steps and cannot be changed around. Frederick Herzberg’s are divided into two independent factors. In fact, Herzberg would argue that the opposite of satisfaction is not dissatisfaction since different stimuli are involved in generating each of those emotional states. As a result these states must be measured on different scales.
Motivating the workforce
People spend a considerable part of their lives at work, so it is not surprising that they expect to be rewarded and satisfied with the job that they do.
