Case against school meals
Case against school meals
Although school meals may have advantages, there are disadvantages of it also. School meals provided for children, are good and help parents financially but it depends on what kind of food is presented to their children. In my opinion, some reasons why I think it is not a good thing is because the food provided may be of processed foods and fruits, the unhygienic of the preparation of the food and the nutritious content of the food.
Many of people rely on schools to provide healthy nutritious lunches for their children. The food the children eat daily, nine months out of the year is not all that it is made out to be. The school lunches provided, most of the times, consist of frozen veggies, non-fresh fruit and processed meats. All processed foods are full of chemicals and are high-fat, high-calorie. Parents need to do something about the lunch that is being provided to our children. We need to stand up for them and get the schools to provide healthy foods. Parents need to be more of a role model to our children and teach them what is healthy and what is not. Ann Cooper says, “40 – 45% of people will be insulin dependent within a decade. She also states, “Sick kids get sicker and sicker”. Salt is the essential ingredient in these processed foods and because of this it has been linked to cause high blood pressure.
Additionally, some foods prepared are unhygienic. What is worst than finding a human hair in your food? This is disgusting and highly unhealthy. Those cooks can lose their jobs for making the school look bad. No student wants to eat food that has hair in it. First of all, it is extremely bad for them. A human hair is a foreign object in your body that should not be in foods, and should not be consumed; whether by accident or just not recognized it. Even though hair nets are used when cooking, hair can still get into foods becoming unsanitary.
Lastly, healthy and nutritious foods are not served to children, who should be

Because, schools lack the proper funding needed to support students with healthy lunches, students have a horrible diet. A lot of people, including myself, believe that if healthy school lunches were provided students at home would make better choices when it came to what snacks they ate between meals. If schools got better funding for healthier lunches it could theoretically save the government more money because the students in turn would have less health problems.…
