Feedback: Without science and technology, the great majority of us would be dead, so we tend to be supporters of science. Although we know that science works, we’re never sure that it is completely right. Students so often discover things that professors missed, or that professors got wrong, that scientists would be silly to claim Truth. Comparing the TV ratings of the latest hit to the ratings of the latest science program on public broadcasting shows that many Americans are not fascinated by science, but the science-show ratings are above zero, so some people are fascinated by science. And hope as we might, it is unfortunately clear that not every scientist is sexy (just most of them are…).…

Previous to this, I was the Director of Human Resources for a dot com called All Outdoors in Traverse City, MI. Although my title was HR, I wore many hats and worked in each department of the organization. This was perhaps one of the best jobs ever. We had a creative "team" environment. I helped build the company from the ground up but,…

I'm passionate about science, specifically the science that revolves around how our planet works. I live in an area that is a geological hot spot, I’m only miles away from Crater Lake and I live near the Cascadia Subduction Zone. I began to learn that earthquakes and natural disasters were a phenomenon that I wanted to learn more about. So I challenged myself by taking 4 and half years worth of science credits. My junior year I took Chemistry and Physics, and my senior year I continued building credit by taking AP Environmental Science. Each year I strived to earn good grades so that I could have an opportunity to continue my education. I want to earn a bachelor's degree in Earth Science and continue on to an advanced degree. My career goal…

It’s a low paying position where weekends and holidays may be required, plus it’s long, hard physical work. Though, like stated previously, this job will get the worker into physical shape, it can also be considered a negative because it doesn’t just happen on it’s own. The work isn’t easy, it’s very long and strenuous on the body. They will most likely have to work 40 hours a week. At places like the VHS, you’ll work 8am until 4:30pm. This job has very long shifts. They’ll also be exposed daily to cleaning and disinfecting agents, urine, and feces. Many people would consider the low pay & working on weekends and holidays a reason to not take the job. On average, only $30,000 is the annual salary. So, they would be considered either working class or lower middle class. People also don’t like working on weekends or holidays, obviously, but there are live animals depending on your maintenance of the place. On these days people would much rather have a couple days to relax or celebrate with family, instead of having to work half the…

New technologies permitting on-line music sales, like iTunes, and recording and playing devices like iPod and upcoming cellphone technologies, increase the easy availability and sale of music products. They also allow music companies to avoid the expense of manufacturing and distributing CDs, and sharing sales revenues with retailers. A major downside is that new technologies permit easy copying of music without payment. Technology that can provide copyright protection (e.g., preventing unauthorized copying) may be one solution to this problem.…

Landfill gas is generated during the decomposition of organic substances in municipal and industrial wastes. Since it is made up of powerful greenhouse gases, primarily methane gas and carbon dioxide, the prevention of escape to atmosphere is desirable and has the added benefit of being utilised as a renewable energy source (Clarke Energy, 2014). One such company focussed on dealing with this issue is Landfill Gas Industries Pty Ltd (L.G.I. Pty Ltd) they are ‘a specialist designer, supplier, installer, and operator of systems that capture, extract and burn gas produced in landfills’ (L.G.I. Pty Ltd, 2014). L.G.I. Pty Ltd has several opportunities that could impact the company’s operations in Australia, such as government regulation, the number of councils and landfills available and the fact that all landfills require a solution to the landfill gas problem. However L.G.I. Pty Ltd also has several threats potentially impacting its operations, for example from large energy generators, large waste companies and opposition to landfill gas.…

My future plan in getting an education is to obtain a college degree in Environmental Science and then get a good job in helping to educate others about our planet and all the benefits that could come from being mindful and nurturing to our planet. If given the opportunity to move forward I would attend college and learn how to take better care of the earth and in doing so could result in a greater future in my career. While learning I would try to form a business of my own that would eventually branch out and hopefully grow so many people would spread the ideas of taking a holistic and hands on approach to caring for our planet and we would learn to be creative in how we conduct ourselves. We could potentially build a great economy and healthier atmosphere if we took what we learned at school and applied to our everyday living. Then, I would use all of my abilities to help to create a stream of consciousness that would change people’s fears and help them to realize the incredible potential that we have if we would work together to protect the earth and all of its vast resources instead of sapping them without any return .I feel the earth is our greatest gift and should be treated and nurtured in the same manner that a mother nurtures her own child and by doing so it would give us excellent potential for generations to…
