When I was thinking about a future career, I couldn’t believe that there are so many job type in the field of Social Working. One of my goals in life is to be a Mental Health and Substance Abuse Social Worker. and/or work somewhere in that field. I've always wanted to work in that sort of field or in Criminal Justice. I have had some experience in this type of job with having foster sisters with social workers and my mom working at a substance abuse prison. Mental Health and Substance Abuse Social Workers have to manage group therapy, crisis intervention, prevention, and also education. They have to basically study their clients and know everything about them to be able to console them. They also have to refer their patients to different types of doctors. most people who work in this field generally have the interest code: S.I.A (Social, Investigative, Artistic Environment). Being a social worker needs skills. for example, social perceptiveness. Which means being aware of others reactions and understanding why they react as they do. another skill they would need is to be able to have good speaking skills and talking to others to convey information effectively. The basic knowledge you need to know is Therapy and Counseling, which is the basic principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis. To be this type of Social Worker you would need to have graduated high school, a Masters degree. Also some require a Ph. D, M.D., or a J.D.(Law Degree). As you can see, it takes a lot of Knowledge, Schooling, And Skills to be a Mental Health And Substance Abuse Social Worker. Most people with this type of job usually make around $27,990-71,970 a year. 13,400 people in California were employed with this type of job in 2008, therefore you could possibly find this job just about anywhere.
