Career Goals
Describe your academic and career goals in the broad field of engineering (including computer science, industrial distribution, and engineering technology). What and/or who has influenced you either inside or outside the classroom that contributed to these goals?

My academic goals are becoming an expert on both computer science and business. Similarly, in terms of my career goals, I would like to be a successful entrepreneur by basing my company off of the technological product I designed. I believe learning computer science is important because of its usefulness to society. For example, in the future, our society will most likely be technology based with more technological innovations being made every year. However, all of those revolutionary innovations such as the new Macbook Air need advanced computer science skills in order to successfully function as a high tech computer. In addition, computer science can also be used in other fields of daily life such as digital protection. In terms of digital protection, without computer scientists, private information such as credit card numbers would be easily

For example, Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook, combined his programming skills with a business mindset to become one of the most successful programmers in the world. If Zuckerberg was just a regular computer programmer, he would be nowhere as affluent as he is today. However, because he uses his business intellect to promote Facebook globally, this allows Facebook to become an international monopoly. In all, these are a couple of reasons why I idolize Mark Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg effectively combines his business skills to promote a revolutionary social media site with his computer skills. In addition, Zuckerberg displays that new ideas lead to enormous advancements in society like Facebook did. For those reasons, Zuckerberg has inspired me to be an expert on both business and computer

After Graduate School, I hope to have my PhD in psychology or my doctorate in psychiatry. I would like to start out working in jails, talking to criminals and analyzing their brains versus the brain of an average adult to study how the brain reacts with criminal activity and why they do and feel what they do. I have heard that a person can not do that type of work for very long because it is emotionally tasking so after that, I would like to open my own counseling practice up. I would do either marriage and family therapy or focus on teenage depression. Eventually, I would like to retire into school psychology or become a psychology teacher. Also, if I ever have enough money, I will buy a house devoted to taking in stray animals…

Life for me has been very interesting. I started off in the nursing field as a nursing assistant and patient care tech at 19 working my way through school both full-time and part-time until I finally graduated from Virginia State University with my Associate’s of Science Degree in Nursing. After accomplishing that goal I have reached somewhat of a plateau in my life I have so many short and long-term goals I want to accomplish both professionally and personally. Some of professional goals are, becoming a supervisor at my current job, obtaining my Advance Life Support Certification, obtaining my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, enlisting into the Navy Nurse Corps, becoming a Nurse Practitioner, and eventually one day becoming an Administrator of an Acute Care Facility. As well as having professional goals in life you should have personal goals. My short and long term-personal goals are; relocating to Chicago, Illinois, getting married, and having children. The typical American Dream. These goals are not far from my reach with self motivation and perseverance all of these goals can be accomplished.…

Whenever thinking of my short and long-term goals, five total goals come clearly to my mind. Three of them are short-term goals, and two of them are long-term goals. My first short-term goal is getting a leadership position in Sigma Alpha. There are multiple officer positions, and I want to apply to one. My second short-term goal is to get a job as a Summer Staff member at Gasper River Catholic Youth Camp & Retreat Center. I have volunteered as a counselor for Gasper River in the past, but this year I am applying to be a staff member which means I will be at the camp Sunday through Friday all of the summer watching over the campers and leading them in activities. My third short-term goal is to become a peer mentor for the Agriculture LLP (2017/2018 School Year). If I am offered the position, I will help freshman make the transition into college a smoother process. One of my long-term goals is to own a farm, and house. The other long-term goal is to become an agriculture education professor.…

My professional goals are as a License Professional Counselor licensure, and with that, work with women in crisis, specifically with unplanned pregnancies, teenage pregnancies, human trafficking survivors, and domestic abuse survivors. I have a great appreciation for lay counseling in the church, and the many ways in which the church of Jesus Christ has been caring for souls for millennia. I would like to receive my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling because I believe counseling is something God has called me to as a profession, and as such I believe receiving a high degree of theological and scientific training is essential to excellence in the field. Specifically, I would like to study at Liberty University because I believe it offers the best integration of faith and academics that I have seen. Currently, I am finishing my undergraduate in Psychology-Christian Counseling through Liberty’s online program, and I was impressed at the quality of the counseling program. Counseling is somewhat of a unique field to study as a Christian, because of the animosity generated from the secular psychology field towards Christianity, and vise versa. Having studied psychology at a previous university, I was somewhat disappointed at the approaches I saw to solving this paradox:…

My aspirations consist of getting a bachelor’s degree in a science that would help me pursue a medical career as a physician. My passion has always been to cooperate and assist others for their well-being. I believe that pursuing a medical career will allow me the opportunity to help improve the community's health conditions and learn about their health related needs. After completing my college education I want to go to medical school and become a doctor, I want to specialize in oncology, the study of cancer, and contribute to the cancer research field. I have dealt with cancer within my family; my mother was diagnosed with a pelvic tumor summer of 2012. This situation has instilled in me a purpose and desire to become an oncologist. Furthermore, I want to give back to underserved masses in the U.S. that struggle every day to maintain a family, and who do not have as much access to medical assistance as other privileged groups. The first project I plan to achieve throughout my career is to create a clinic where affordable medical assistance can be provided regardless of the patient's economic, ethnic, or immigration status. I also want to help expand horizons for others therefore I plan to create a non-profit organization where I can provide internships for medical school students all over the U.S. and allow them to travel to outlying communities around the world to provide free medical services. I also wish to form a team of doctors to help educate remote communities about nutrition, especially indigenous groups from Latin American countries. This project is particularly close to my heart because I come from Costa Rican descent. I have volunteered in orphanages and homes in rural parts of Costa Rica and I’ve witnessed myself the lack of medical attention among the indigenous people there. I have this incessant inquietude to go the limit for my mother and the people of Latin America. These people inspire me every day and it’s because of my mom and them that I…
