One of the primary causes of enlarged heart symptoms in children is cardiomyopathy. If a child suffers from this condition, their heart is not in a position to pump blood properly; therefore, this can result in congestive heart failure. Typically, cardiomyopathy in children is caused by a viral infection. In addition, it may occur due to nutritional deficiencies, a congenital heart disease, and fast rhythm of the heart or chemotherapy. Cardiomyopathy is genetic in nature, but at times, it can occur for no reason whatsoever.

Ordinarily, the treatment involves decreasing the stress on the heart through medication. If the enlarged heart symptoms in children are due to a viral infection, it can get better once the infection disappears. However, this is not sure. If the condition gets worse, then the only treatment is a heart transplant.
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, also known as asymmetric septal hypertrophy, hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy or idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis is a rare condition. This condition makes the left ventricle to enlarge; alternatively, the septum separating the two ventricles expands. This type of cardiomyopathy can also cause the mitral valve to weaken and leak causing the blood to flow backward from the left ventricle into the left atrium.
This kind of cardiomyopathy is usually hereditary and causes pain in the chest. The child suffers dizzy spells, fainting episodes, and abnormal heart beats. The treatment is similar to congestive cardiomyopathy, but at times surgery is also required wherein the pacemaker is introduced into the heart, a part of the enlarged heart is removed, or heart transplantation is
