I think there are many different ways to reach out to employers. Since I graduate at the end of this month, I have my own methods determined. I will post my resume on basic websites such as monster.com and carreerbuilder.com. I also have a few friends that work in management. I will submit my cover letter and resume to them to show there employers. Over the past several months I have been networking with my good friends and their colleagues. I have gone to company events such as picnics or fundraisers. This has helped me meet many interesting people that could potentially further my career.
Volunteering is another thing I plan to do. In my neighborhood, there are monthly newsletters on ways to volunteer. Also the company I currently work for often participates in things like walks for breast cancer or walks for multiple sclerosis. You can meet many interesting people in these areas. I feel company’s like to make a good name for themselves and give back to the community when they can. Demonstrating that you like to give back would be a great asset.
I also plan to utilize all of DeVry services in searching for a career. DeVry offers counseling, they can set you up with interviews, and they can review your resume and/or cover letter for improvements. All of these benefits are throughout the lifetime of a DeVry alumni. Knowing someone helps you get your foot in the door. Utilizing DeVry will help you get that foot in the door as well. During this week, we will submit our resume to the DeVry website putting us one step further. They also have websites now where you can meet people on the internet in regards to jobs. Facebook and twitter offer the capability to network with people and companies. Social networking sites are one of the most successful, if not the most successful method of networking. With technological advancements and the importance of online, using the internet to move ahead is a smart choice.
