Capstone Essay On Minimum Wage
For my Capstone Essay, I decided to talk about the topic of whether or not minimum wage should increase. Because this is such a largely debated issue, I thought this would be an interesting topic to learn about. Originally I thought it would be easy to find information because of this. Despite minimum wage being a popular issue, I had a hard time finding any relevant or useful information. While I wanted to use primarily statistical research for my Capstone Essay, this problem influenced me to use the little bit of experience I have had. Even though it seemed like a problem originally, I am happy that the conflict led to practiced used in previous essays.
Another big contributor was my lack of knowledge on minimum wage prior to writing the essay. Usually this would not be the ideal approach to an essay, only making the essay harder to write than it needs to be. However, I enjoy working this way, because my claim is usually well developed and free from a premeditated bias. This tactic is especially effective for research essays such as the Capstone Essay. If I walked into the essay deciding my claim before doing research, there is a possibility that I will solely look for research that provides a confirmation bias opposed to seeing what everyone has to say. This essay helped me understand the importance of research and well thought out analysis when developing a claim. As I said previously, it was unfortunate that there was not as much of a variety in terms of useful information as I would have liked, but I am happy with the work I put into the essay. Every essay leading up to the Capstone Essay has shown me that hard work will achieve great results.
