Capella Scholarship Essay
I am not sure I could express into words how much I have grown and learned throughout this journey of my graduate degree with Capella. I had been wanting to go into this field for over 10 years, but didn’t have the opportunity to until a couple years ago. As soon as the opportunity came up, I dived right into it. Not knowing too much of the whole process of hours and requirements, all I knew was that I loved helping people and had a passion for it. I have been so fortunate to have the support of my family and more importantly my two beautiful girls. It has been a major sacrifice for them being a single parent going back to school. There has been many times that I rather no count that we couldn’t go do certain things because I had a paper to write. At first it didn’t matter to me to attend graduation, but seeing all the hard work that I have put into doing the best I could and the sacrifices they have made I want them to also join in the celebration because I am proud of them too.
I was extremely fortunate to have Dr. Pate as my tracl 1 professor. I was also very fortunate to develop a close bond with everyone in my track 1 one class that we developed our own Facebook group. We have all stayed connected since and a few of them I have become even closer to. Two of them I have been so lucky to have multiple classes with and is in my practicum and internship classes. Heather has been one of my closest by far. I

I have felt that Capella has given me a well rounded education. I feel that it has properly prepared me for my practicum and in fact I have had to deal with some tough cases. My supervisor and practicum professor has been impressed with my skill level. I have not, what I like to say, my theory has not found me. I am still exploring different styles and I do not feel pressured by my site or professors to pick one. I am grateful for that. I am closer to being comfortable with my style and I am confident in

“The future belongs to the discontented.” I agree with this quote because the future definitely does belong to the discontented. In my opinion, the discontented represents everyone. No one can truly ever stay content for long without wanting to better their current situation. Even the richest man in America, Bill Gates, still feels the need to change the future – his and the world’s. I think it is great that the future belongs to those who are dissatisfied, and I believe that it does because of many reasons such as human nature and the American Dream.…

Everyone knows the intersection on Hoover and Jefferson. It’s where students and faculty and neighbors of the community for a moment in time all come together. That intersection represents not only ones entrance and exit from the “USC bubble,” but provides a moment of realization that there is life beyond the classrooms, the books, and even the 2 mile “Fruber” radius around USC. See USC, provides the opportunity for one to reach their goals, to take their dreams and make them a reality. However, sometimes it takes a whole community and a 30 second traffic light to get you where you need to go.…

Over the years I have discovered many things, alone, about myself, that would benefit me in the long run. As a child, math and science didn’t interest me, but I always knew what profession I wanted to take up, while in college. To my knowledge, there is only one Landon Follett Van Wagoner in the world, but what's in a name? I suppose that my upbringing isn't far off the norm for a BYU student. I am presently serving a mission in Melbourne Australia, and I will be attending Brigham Young University this fall.…

Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Education has always been extraordinarily important to me, and for this reason, I believe I am qualified to receive this scholarship. Even from a young age, I took it upon myself to strive for the best, participating in spelling bees since the fourth grade, maintaining a 4.0 grade point average throughout middle school, and immersing myself entirely in academics during my high school career. Throughout school, I had two predominant goals that I continuously strived for: to graduate with a 4.0 grade point average and to be accepted into the college of my dreams. I accomplished both, becoming a senior scholar in my graduating class…
