Can There Be Creativity Without Emotion?
Can there be creativity without emotion?
Creativity is the ability to create new thoughts and ideas. It is a foundation to innovation, and it is all around us. Everything made by humans was once thought of, and then created. However, the greatest presence of creativity can be found in arts. As we all know, people express their emotions through art. They want to convey their thoughts and how they feel through their pieces whether it is in form of music, poetry, film, painting or even an advertisement. But can a person create a piece of art, without feeling any emotion? One teacher once told me that people start to write poems when their emotions are overflowing, and that this way of expressing themselves helps the artists to cope with everything. Poems usually talk about personal life of the writer. About their troubles, their happiness, their anger. It is filled with emotion from the very beginning till the very end. I am also convinced a good poem has to have emotion in it, as I believe that is what poems are for. However, someone may be able to write a poem about a chair, and not feel a single emotion about it. They just put some rhymes together, and call it a poem. But is that truly art? The definition of a poem according to dictionary.com is:
“A composition in verse, especially one that is characterized by a highly developed artistic form and by the use of heightened language and rhythm to express an intensely imaginative interpretation of the subject.”
I would like to point out the word “express”. People use poems to express, and something without emotion cannot be expressed, at least in my opinion. Every time I have a rough day, I put my earphones in, and play music. As it helps me escape from reality, it calms me down. Music makes everyone feel some kind of emotion, even distaste, if we don’t like that song or genre. Music, as well as poems, has been always used to express feelings and to share them with others. We can feel all the emotions

In today's modern view, poetry has become more than just paragraphs that rhyme at the end of each sentence. If the reader has an open mind and the ability to read in between the lines, they discover more than they have bargained for. Some poems might have stories of suffering or abuse, while others contain happy times and great joy. Regardless of what the poems contains, all poems display an expression. That very moment when the writer begins his mental journey with that pen and paper is where all feelings are let out. As poetry is continues to be written, the reader begins to see patterns within each poem. On the other hand, poems have nothing at all in common with one another. A good example of this is in two poems by a famous writer by the name of Langston Hughes. A well-known writer that still gets credit today for pomes like " Theme for English B" and "Let American be American Again."…

Sometimes when people think about the calming sound of a night-time melody, the catchy beat of a popular song, or simply the words in a poem that captures how you feel and you can perfectly relate to. What comes to mind when we mention a poem? Usually what people think or what people’s thoughts go to, are emotions and rhyme. I think it takes a little more of each person’s perspective into the situation, not only the writer’s but also the reader’s perspective, which is what gives that extra spark to the piece. The literary element that is the most important to bring a poem to life is imagery; it would help the reader…

"Compressed emotions," that is the explanation a teacher once gave to the ongoing question, "What is poetry?" He said it was someone's deepest emotions, as if you were reading them right out of that person's mind, which in that case would not consist of any words at all. If someone tells you a story, it is usually like a shell. Rarely are all of the deepest and most personal emotions revealed effectively. A poem of that story would be like the inside of the shell. It personifies situations, and symbolizes and compares emotions with other things in life. Louise Erdrich's poem Indian Boarding School puts the emotions of a person or group of people in a setting around a railroad track. The feelings experienced are compared to things from the setting,…

Poetry is different from fiction literature because of the detail within it. Poetry explains more by corresponding emotion and detail rather than ordinary language. Poetry delivers emotion and thought deliberately because it is made to do so. When reading poetry it is important to read to hear the sounds because it is meant to be heard. Interpreting the true meaning within a poem can be challenging because poetry uses intense figurative language and symbolism. Figurative language helps the reader know the mood of the scene in a poem. One of the most important types of figurative language is Allegory. Allegory can be referred to as the second meaning of a word or phrase in a poem. It can also be referred to as an extended metaphor because it the word or phrase goes beyond the surface of thought. In poetry, the average word has two component parts: denotation and connotation. Denotation is the dictionary meaning of the word while connotations are what the word suggests or what it expresses. For instance, the denotation of the word happy can be referred to as the act of happiness but the connotation of the word happy varies within different individuals because different things make individuals happy. Another important aspect of poetry is imagery. Imagery can be defined as the representation through language of sense experience. Because poetry appeals directly to the readers senses, imagery is key to a successful poem.…

The art of poetry can be thought of as the conveyance of an emotion, idea, or experience through the careful and creative use of words. The success or failure of the art is directly linked to the poet’s mastery of word craft, and their ability to get in touch with any number of anonymous readers. Masterful poets use a myriad of techniques to establish these connections and, therefore, create sustainable works. For instance, the skilled manipulation of word choice, rhythm, figurative language, including ambiguity, are all very important elements to creating beautiful, meaningful works that can intrigue and form a connection with the poets audience. However, the physical form of poetry is an additional method by which the poet can convey the experience or add emphasis to the point of the poem.…

The definition of art, according to the Oxford dictionary is described as “The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.” (Oxford, 2014) Now at a time before I would have to agree with the current definition of art given by Oxford, however I began to experience something quite different at the tender age of eight years old. At this age I was thrust into a world I did not want any parts of, I wanted to stay in my little bubble I called my world and deal with my feelings the way I wanted to. However my mother and therapist thought of another way I could express my feelings and emotions, they thought I should try creative writing and dance.…

Music serves as an escape route for people when dealing with daily problems, big or small. Music can also be a way people communicate. When there are no words to say, music helps express feelings. There’s always a song that a person can relate to. Each song has a distinct message to it that differentiates it from others. The lyrics of a song are what allow the listener to make a connection with the artist and song. What does music mean to you? Has music helped you through a difficult situation? Everybody handles things in different ways. In my life, music has always served two purposes: it keeps me busy while working on either homework or any task and it allows me to let go of feelings I have been harboring. Music is separated into different genres, based on the unique composition, style, and content. The song I have picked that relates to Aristotle’s three appeals, logos, pathos, and ethos, is “Say Something” by A Great Big World. This song has been close to my heart recently due to a breakup I have experienced.…
