Can science and religion coexist?
The contention between science and religion has been an issue of debate for decades. The relationship between religion and science has been a focus of the demarcation problem. Somewhat related is the claim that science and religion may pursue knowledge using different methodologies. The scientific method relies on reason and empiricism while religion acknowledges revelation, faith and sacredness. Some scholars said that science and religion should be separate as one is a fairy tale and the other is backed by evidence. Thus, they cannot be united in harmony. However, for me, science and religion can coexist as they actually do different things. Also, both work for the betterment of human and thus, interconnection can actually form between science and religion. Furthermore as long as people can compartmentalise and separate spiritual beliefs from empirical facts, science and religion can actually coexist. Some extremist scientists argue that science is based on observation and supported by lots of evidence which cannot be clouded by spiritual beliefs. A lot of things that are considered right under religion are later being debunked by science. However, some religious groups claim that science is merely a bunch of wishful temporary theories waiting to be debunked and cannot hold a candle to the truth of divine revelation. Genetic manipulation is such a prominent example which demonstrates how science and religion contradict each other. Some years ago, what was almost a dogma was that God create human beings and the environment shapes one’s personality. However, the genetic science is trying to replace this theory as our genes actually create us and determine our personality a lot. Some religious groups criticize that scientists are playing the God and they warn that the wielding power to alter human nature by genetic means is dangerous and human beings will face disastrous consequence for their inconsiderate behavior . *

Why? – All of them haven’t been proven yet as they are still mere theories…

Sharaf Assignment #2(2) 10/4/2011 Religions and Sciences “Religion is science and science is religion” this is my rule and belief in this life. However, not all religions agree with science all the time. In my point of view, if a religion does not agree with science at all then it can’t be a true religion, because if GOD created everything and everything have its own science, therefor, the true religion from a true GOD should agree with the science that was created by GOD. I was born…

INTRODUCTION Is science a religion? This topic has been debated by many creationists and scientists alike. The philosophy of science makes no claims to knowledge about the supernatural or metaphysical and, by not so doing, is left with an enterprise that although hugely successful is also permanently on trial (Manne, 2010). The only thing scientists can agree upon is the empirical nature of science, but the steps from observations to theory are not without philosophical problems. DISCUSSION Thomas…

Religion and Science: The relationship between science and religion up until the 6th century were one in the same. Philosophers believed that natural occurrences were due to a divine power. Earthquakes and thunderstorms were merely upset gods showing their wrath. Individuals sought to learn the language of the gods to comprehend these phenomena. After the 6th century, new ideas formed that excluded the gods. These philosophers did not personify nature. They believed the world to be orderly and…

Science and Religion: Enemies or Allies? For years now, the world has made scientific breakthroughs of every kind, whether it be the moon landing or the discovery of the Higgs boson particle. Such discoveries have given the critics of Creationism ammunition to attack religious believers, and as I have seen, said attacks have been very successful in turning people away from the goodness of God. Nowadays, high schools have become very secular establishments, with any mention or discussion of religion…
