My Camping Experience
Fellow Toastmasters thank you for this opportunity to share my camping experience with you.
It is a kind of family tradition, my family and friends plan to do the camping every year at Olema campgrounds. For this year, the plan started about two month in advance and we were planning & talking about this in every family get together. I could not believe that day had finally come. As soon as I saw the entrance sign, a sudden tingling feeling bubbles through my body knowing that, I don’t have to look at the internet, email, bill payment. I don’t have to worry about the deliverable and deadlines. I don’t have to worry about car wash and shopping. I don’t have to worry about taking my child to tennis class and basketball class.
Although still it was evening, outside is very dark to drive in the deep wood. I was filled with thrill to drive about 45 min in the deep wood in winding road. Finally, I arrived the campground at dusk, little later than originally planned arrival time. Most of my friends they were already setup their tent and they were into other activities like preparing the dinner and setting campfire, etc. Few kids were playing hide and seek and others were getting ready go around campfire. My friends were awfully awaiting for our arrival, the moment we appeared in front them, they were relieved and rushed greet us, guided us to park our car. They rushed and helped me to setup the tent quickly. Once I finished putting up our tents, we started assemble in front of the campfire and we briefly discussed about their experience in reach the campground. I started tasting wine along with few friends, meantime the food is ready. The giggling and gossip was on for couple of hour. It is about 10:00 pm every one was getting ready for bed. Just few minutes after we turned off the lantern , we heard noise , I peeked out of and saw raccoon. All of us sat quietly and watched raccoon open the garbage dumpster and dump it out.

It was going to be a short ride only about 4 hours altogether through the South Dakota mountains. About an hour into our ride, we reached the mountains and as soon as we did Brody, Eli, Maddy, and I rode our horses to the top of the mountains. When we reached the top of the mountains we got off our horses and looked out over the South Dakota scenery, it was a beautiful view. I have never seen a better view in my life. You could see so far since we were up so high in the air and when we looked down at Tommy and Cassie they looked like ants. After we took a few pictures we headed back down to Tommy and Cassie. We went a little further after we got down from the mountain and then we turned back and headed towards camp. We arrived back at camp we washed, fed, and watered the horses. When we were done with that stuff we made a fire and started carving on sticks for a competition we were having and then at about 11 we went to…

I don’t like to go camping but my husband and children will enjoy doing it. For that reason, I think, we’ll go camping with “La manada jeep”. However, If I decide to do, I’ll pack many things to be comfortable. I might not bring my pillows and stuff, but I’m sure that I’m going to bring three flashlights, batteries, a lot of insect repellents, blanket, and everything.…

Camping and being in the outdoors has been a significant part of my life for the last eight years. As a child, I never enjoyed it much. Three years ago, my family along with four other families decided to take a trip to Glacier National Park. The sky-piercing mountains and the beautiful lakes urged me to explore the outdoors more. From hiking through the mountainous trails to driving up the mountains through the Going-to-the-Sun road, I finally began to realize the relief and soothing sense that nature had to offer. Despite the love I finally found in the outdoors, I was never the dedicated and…

I could hear the blood pumping in my ears, away from the situation, and I started calming my breathing. I headed back to camp, content with trying to forget what I heard. The heavy footsteps of a creature larger than simple game. Almost as though just hiding from me, either to prepare to pounce, or to hide. What bothered me most however, was not that it was seemingly a creature who just wanted to hide, but that it hid. It sounded like a large creature, but a deer would have run, and a wolf would attack, followed by others. What was that? As I reached the campsite, the flames of my fire were softly dancing as though doing a waltz. I checked all of camp, but all the food and supplies I had gathered were gone. I headed back into the woods to the spot where I heard the rustle of leaves. The forest was still unsettlingly still, so I made the point to make my presence be known. I searched for any signs of where my belongings could have ended up. I stumbled upon a skinned deer. With that I knew I was not alone. I searched further, and found the hide on the ground near the river. I lifted it, wondering why any creature would skin a deer just to leave the hide behind not too far…

A fresh breeze blew and ruffled the grass at the Lake of the Woods golf course in Mahomet, Illinois. The leaves fell from the trees and drifted amongst the wind. As I hauled the unopened tent towards my destination, there was lots of chatter, as well as some excitement, but no one spoke of the possibility of success in the monumental task ahead. We set up the tent and waited. We were awaiting the moment that we would go to where they had specified the activity to begin, the moment where most of the team would receive the opportunity to attempt the task we had been striving forward to achieve for the last few months. Except for me, I would be required to stay there just to cheer for those who participate, unless someone became injured to the…

It was sunday, the end of deer season. After an unsuccessful morning hunt we were left with one more opportunity. We would have to start hiking a couple hours before dusk until dark. We hopped in the truck and drove slowly, our eyes scanning the brush for signs of movement until we reached a rusty yellow gate where only foot traffic was permitted. We continued on foot. Eventually the sun began fading behind the mountain and visibility became lower. My dad told me to wait a fork in the road and he’d be right back. Time came to a standstill, it felt like hours had passed when it was only minutes. I was tempted to yell his name but voices are one of the main things that scare off deer. I was on the verge of panic, anxiety and worry building up…

I remember the day vividly: the sizzling of food frying, children yelling, my tears running, it was the first time I adventured to Six Flags. The uneasiness of my stomach while swaying tens of feet from the ground on the Texas Giant petrified the adventurous spirit out of me. However, I did not realize that moment `would shape the next eight years of life, emerging in my memory at every unfamiliar experience I faced. It was my senior year when I declined an invitation to go camping with my friends an epiphany struck me. How many of these opportunities was I going to skip out on due to my reluctant manner?…

I looked around and saw a small dirt road that lead away from the beach inland. I decided to take the road, not realizing what was in store for us. As I am cruising down the dirt path with the Mexican music blaring loudly, drowning out the buzz of the motor. All of a sudden the ATV died. As we sit there with the music still playing, looking around at each other with huge eyes, we were able to get it restarted. At this point that should have been our que to turn around and head back, but we continued on. This happened a couple more times but at this point we were miles from the beach. We weren’t too worried yet as we could see our hotel in the far distance. It was now my friends turn to drive and we at this point realized that we could not let up on the gas pedal as it would die again. We turned down another dirt road, this time being a little larger than the last dirt path. We soon found ourselves driving past a property that looked like a compound. There was a tall fence wrapped in flesh tearing barbed wire. There were about 3 or 4 out building and as we got closer there were a group of men standing in the yard waving at us. When out of nowhere two very large, aggressive pit bulls appear. They were running at us with great speed, saliva dripping from their mouths as they were quickly catching us. They were so close that I could have reached out and touched one or they could have easily ripped my arm off. Luckily the ATV did not die on us at this point. With the gas pedal mash we slowly gained distance between these grossly angry…

As we headed out of town we saw a massive buck easily 26in wide and at least a 6 by 6. We really wished it was deer season because, we would have shot him, but sadly it wasn’t. So we continued down this road hoping we’d spot a raccoon running in the ditch alongside a corn field when all of a sudden a badger came out. We swerved and missed him but that badger was mad. He tried to chase our pickup down but we went to fast for him. After the badger we decided to go on a different road somewhere out in the middle of nowhere where nobody lived and had no livestock we could hurt.…

his is one of the best camping stoves I have ever seen. It's built to last a lifetime and I consider it the Cadillac of all camping stoves. It's the Brunton Wind River Range™and this two burner stove has an individual burner output of 15,000 BTUs. I like the fact that it has a windshield built in. There is nothing more difficult than cooking outdoors when the wind is blowing, but this stove can be moved so that the windshields protect the flame from strong winds, and cooking will be fast and efficient.…

When my mom first asked me if I would like to go to a sleep away camp, I was not sure if I could be away from my family for 2 weeks but my family really must have wanted to get rid of me. They kept on encouraging me to go, eventually, I was convinced, it does not hurt that 2 of my close friends were going too. Before I left I had to pack for a very long time it felt like forever. I did not know it then but I was packing all the wrong things. When the time came for me to get ready to drive up to North Carolina I was so nervous that I may have chickened out and staid at home. But at the same time I was ready to be there and exited. During the twelve hour drive my friend and I could not stop talking about all the possibilities. we had looked online a ton to see what the camp would be like. There were, mountains a huge lake and even more fun activities! Every sport you could imagine of was there. The closer we got to North Carolina the less nervous and more exited I was getting. That night it took forever to fall asleep all of the possibilities were flowing through my head, what if it wasn't fun at all but what if I had an amazing time and never wanted to come home? The next morning when I woke up we had to drive for another 3 hours to get to the camp. 3 long hours later we had arrived and I was getting more exited and less scared of being away for so long. when I walked In to the camp with my mom, my friend, and his mom, I was…

Every year millions of families take a family vacation to get away from reality and be able to relax.
