The story centers around the lives of the Satrapi’s, namely Marjane, her mom, and dad. They sit around and discuss the Iraqi missile crisis with neighbors. Some sirens go off yet the family doesn’t run because the missiles cause such immense damage that hiding in the basement would do no good. Many families flee the area, but Marjane’s family stays. She has a friend named Neda Baba-Levy, whose family is Jewish. They are the Satrapi’s neighbors, and live at the end of the street. One day as Marjane is out shopping for jeans a missile explodes in their neighborhood. She…
Don’t you think that the movie Avatar is very similar to how the pilgrims treated the native Americans? The movie Avatar is an allegory to how pilgrims treated the native Americans because of what took place and where it happened.…
The characters make you feel as if they are portraying their country, getting away from the outrageousness and the terror. Sharing their side of the horrific stories. All distributing the same emotions betrayal and being forced to look the other way. The choreographer immersed herself into the stories of the young people who had overcome the sacrifice of fleeing their country to have freedom in Australia. Cadi McCarthy clearly and successfully got her intent to the target audience (young students) expressing the dreadful descriptions by educating us through contemporary and hip hop…
The entire narrative centers around the idea of environmental destruction, and the circumstances that surround it. The story chronicles the destruction of the Truffula trees, by the Once-Lers to fabricate Thneeds (The needs?). After discovering the potential for growth, they establish a factory, complete with a supply chain, and develop faster and better ways (the Super-Axe-Hacker) to cut down the Truffulas. As the ruination of the area unfolds, the entire ecosystem is disturbed, and the Lorax sends away the Bar-ba- loots and Swamee-Swans. The Once-Lers also dispose of their Gluppity-Glup in the river, causing the Humming Fish to leave.…
Throughout this thrilling movie three themes are displayed that relate to the Bible. This movie captures betrayal of a friend, different beliefs, and peace at the end of the movie. I believe that this world today has a character similar to each one in the movie. The world needs to see the true way in the meaning of betrayal, accepting each other’s differences, and knowing that God will show justice to people when their time has…
I think that the movie tries to say to society, the way in which a person lives a political campaign, as well as the handling and the appareances that a person has to have in the political world, can bring many changes to the life of the candidate.…
Alivah was running for her life through muddy fields and dense forest, attempting to evade the sniper who was on her tail. She'd been grounded by one of their anti aircraft missiles, and her parachute was kind enough to tangle itself into a chestnut tree, of all things. The spiky shells of the nuts had pierced the fabric of the chute and stuck as if they were deliberately trying to hinder her escape, and so she had to hurry to cut herself down. From her vantage point in the tree she couldn't miss the convoy of vehicles that was attempting to negotiate the rough terrain to intercept her.…
"Body Rituals among the Nacirema" is a document written by Mr. Horace Miner. Miner was a graduate of the University of Chicago, with a degree in anthropology. Throughout his life, Miner was dedicated to his studies ranging in anthropology to sociology. He was very interested in the study of anthropology, but Miner disagreed with the way that other cultures were represented. He thought American anthropologists believed that the American culture was "normal" and, that the other studied cultures were misrepresented (Hoogland). Miner was convinced to prove otherwise. He wanted to prove to other anthropologists that to other cultures the American culture could be viewed as unusual.…

There is a profound essence of self sacrifice, beliefs, and symbolic patterns within the plot. As I evaluated the film, I found that it definitely had several moral statements that would “persuade us to apply the principles in our own lives.” (Boggs & Petrie, p 17) I perceived this to be a concept of, stay true to your beliefs, humanity, and moral obligations. I also found the overall film along with the characters to incorporate social problems and the truth of human nature. “Because those characters are representative of humanity in general, they serve as a cinematic vehicle to illustrate some widely or universal acceptable truth about human nature”. (Boggs & Petrie, p…
It's early 21st century, and a nuclear holocaust has killed off most people. Those that remain are subjugated to a war against sophisticated machines. This sets the stage for the classical narrative that will unfold in James Cameron’s The Terminator. This film provides several examples of the classical narrative style, mise-en-scene, exquisite editing that matches on graphics and action as well as use of camera angles to feature the tale.…
This movie portrays the Rwandan society in Africa. The characters are attempting to find safe haven within the campus of a hotel called the Hotel des Mille Collines. The pressure holds between the Tutsi and the Hutu tribes. This war was being fought in the 90’s because the Tutsi people were the minority, and the Hutu people believed they were the reason behind the regions decline.…
The song's video takes the audience into multiple frames of cartoonish symbols. The first frame takes place in a public school at the time of the 9/11 where the school represents the community and the amount of responsibility they hold. The second frame is when Geroge W. Bush is reading a story indicates that he is not part of the community as well as he is not the right response to the 9/11. The third frame represents the three main characters of the song in which each character shows a different issue. The first character is an African American citizen who gets racially arrested by white cops on his way home. The second character is an Amercian soldier who gets re-assigned when he gets back home from Iraq. The final character is a tenant, a single mother who gets evicted with her children while watching the news. The three characters come together to become protagonists to defend their rights and declare their freedom of speech in the congress.…
