The film starts of with classical music, which is perceived as structured, cultured, and civilized music. Therefore you picture a city in your mind as the credits roll. But Night and Fog transitions to an idyllic barren countryside. The music silences and you hear a delicate flute solo, which makes you visualize a bird or butterfly. The sky dominates the picture as it symbolizes freedom and God. Below the sky there is a field,…

From the sound, lighting, camera placement etc. One example of this is the lighting throughout the film, you can see it is very bland, very black and white, to reflect Harold’s lifestyle. Another use of lighting in the film is when the light on his wrist is flared are brightened to show the significance of the watch to him and the story. Many of the shots in the movie are simple and still, especially towards Harold to show the simplicity of his life. The colors in the film also have a big reflection on the character’s attitude and emotions. For example the color’s in Harold’s house and work are very dull and stale to reflect his emotions and his basic personality. Another example is the bakery, which is much more colorful to show the baker’s aggressive personality. Another example is the colors in Dale’s home, they are very bright and energetic to show that the changing character and emotion of Harold. Racism is a major issue that takes place in the film, it is viewed negatively and the director Alan Parker attempts to show to the audience the downsides and how devastating it is, how unfair it can be. The constant, terrorizing attacks against black people by the KKK in are horrific and cruel. Innocent people are killed and homes are put in flames or destroyed for no other reason than the fact that a group of people are racist against others. Film codes used help to place a negative feel in some of these scenes like the use of fire, symbolising evil towards the racist acts. The music performed as well by the black community show the great amount of sadness the people have to suffer. Many various camera shots/angles and lighting for separate scenes change the feeling and the mood. This use of film convections affect the views and opinions of the viewer’s towards the subject of racism, helping people understand the negative of it.…

The Giver movie and the Giver novel were very different. This is most likely because the Giver book was released in 1993 and the movie was made in 2014. First, the movie depicts the characters to look like they are eighteen or nineteen, in the book they are only twelve. Also, in the movie Jonas begins to see beyond like in the book, except he sees yellow, unlike in the book where he sees red. In addition to that, a more important difference would be that in the move Ashers´ job is drone pilot and he plays a much bigger role. In the novel, he is the director of recreation and he doesn't do anything important. Finally, in the movie, Fiona almost gets released because she helped Jonas leave. In the novel, Jonas does not receive help from Fiona…

The drastic use of color has been used to depict the mood of the subject, with greens and intense reds contributing to a sense of chaos and disorder, which helps to reinforce the expression of the figure. The lone emaciated figure stands on a bridge clutching his ears, his eyes and mouth open in a wide scream of fear, anguish and confusion. The green hue of the character’s face and his grey clothing is symbolic of sickness and death in regards to his psychotic mental state. The red sky creates a sense of alarm, and highlights the intensity of the character’s experience…

The first important step on Jonas’s journey as a hero is his call to adventure. Jonas is called to the Ceremony of 12 to receive his task. When he is skipped over he thinks that he has done something wrong over the years while he has been observed. But then he learns that he has been called to be the Receiver. This is a rather important position that Jonas has been called to take on in memory. Being the Receiver lets you experience memories and moments that the society he is living in doesn’t get to see. The Giver is the one who is going to teach Jonas and show Jonas these moments. I chose to analyze Jonas’s call to adventure in the first frame of my graphic novel to designate its position as the first step on Jonas’s journey as a hero. In addition I dappled most of the frame in black and white and speckled some color in some areas to show how Jonas started to see color at flash.…
